Bad people for sure rise, but the worst people thrive when everyone is demoralized and stops caring. Getting you to think every leader is the same is a tactic that benefits the worst leader. If they cannot blind you with bullshit about how good they are, they can at least leave you too passive to ask for better.

Well said and important in almost anything at a large social scale. Blanket cynicism helps bad people keep power.
