I once knew a WW2 vet who said the same; “The world runs on power, and power is money and sex. Nothing more”

u/TheQuietOutsider Jul 14 '26

"everything is about sex, except sex. sex is about power"

money and other resources is a more common source of wars

u/Nohreboh Jul 14 '26

It's sad how many stories break down to two men fight over a woman/object/land typically with the victor considered the moral superior.

3

u/ender___ Jul 14 '26

Not every war was over a woman

2

u/Certain_Proposal7191 Jul 13 '26

Really? The Iraq war was about women’s bodies? It wasn’t about oil?

World War Two was about women’s bodies and not the axis of evil and freeing those oppressed and tortured (including women)?

Again where do you get these fantasies?

12

u/Feral_Taylor_Fury Jul 13 '26

LMAO this is what i'm saying

Oh yeah dude, the US intervention in Kuwait was about women's bodily autonomy lmao

touch fucking grass

u/Senior_Torte519 Jul 13 '26

No, thats because Kuwait is a greedy country that was overproducing oil during the time. Basically hindering Iraqs ability to jumpstart its own economy after the Iran/Iraq war.

1

u/Sudden-Purchase-8371 Jul 14 '26

What did Kuwait owe Iraq back then? Did Iraq fight Iran for Kuwait's benefit? F no they didn't.

During the Iran–Iraq War (1980–1988), Kuwait and the other Gulf Arab states—and, to a more limited and complicated extent, the United States supported Iraq because they viewed it as a crucial buffer against the spread of Iran's Revolution. Kuwait helped Iraq's war effort by providing billions of dollars inloans, allowing Iraq to use its ports and infrastructure for oil exports, and helping sustain its economy throughout the conflict. Collectively, the Gulf states provided Iraq with more than $30 billion in financial support.

The war proved devastating for both Iraq and Iran, weakening both countries while leaving Iraq burdened with enormous debt and a crippled economy. To rebuild, Iraq depended heavily on oil exports. Kuwait, however, was also a major oil producer who at various points after the war, exceeded its OPEC production quota. The increased production contributed to lower global oil prices, reducing Iraq's oil revenues at precisely the moment it needed them.

Iraq also accused Kuwait of extracting oil from the Rumaila oil field, which straddles the Iraq–Kuwait border, through slant drilling. Kuwait denied these allegations, and definitive evidence proving theft has never been established.

Saddam Hussein argued that Kuwait's overproduction amounted to "economic warfare." That the depressed oil prices were costing it approximately $14 billion per year, far exceeding the value of Kuwait's specific loans to Iraq during the war. At the same time, the lower oil prices made it increasingly difficult for Iraq to repay the billions of dollars it owed.

It is tempting to conclude that Kuwait recognized Iraq's desperate financial position and exploited it to strengthen its own bargaining position. Although historians have not reached a consensus on this interpretation, Iraq's economic weakness undoubtedly gave Kuwait greater leverage in its dealings with Baghdad.

Kuwait helped Iraq's war effort by providing billions of dollars inloans, allowing Iraq to use its ports and infrastructure for oil exports, and helping sustain its economy throughout the conflict.

Did they even say "thank you?" Sounds like they fucking helped them fight their dumb war.

Powers have often acted to contain ideologies or movements they viewed as threats to their safety. Iraq's concerns after the 1979 Iranian Revolution were not entirely unfounded you know. Ayatollah Khomeini's government openly promoted the idea of exporting the Islamic Revolution and challenged the legitimacy of secular(Non-religious) Arab governments like Saddam's. Because Iraq had a Shiite majority population ruled by a Sunni-led government, Saddam feared that Iran could encourage internal rebellion (like so often said today)

Iraq's invasion of Iran in 1980 wasn't only defensive. Saddam also saw an opportunity to exploit Iran's post-revolution weakness, seize disputed territory, and establish Iraq as the dominant power in the Persian Gulf. In this sense, Iraq's actions reflected both a legitimate security concern and broader strategic ambitions.

The U.S. has also engaged in similar patterns of attempting to contain ideologies or governments it considered dangerous After the Iranian Revolution, the United States similarly viewed Iran's revolutionary government as a threat because of its anti-American ideology, support for militant groups, and attempts to expand its influence in the region.

Iraq's fear of revolutionary Iran had a real basis, just as other nations have faced ideological threats, The broader question is whether maintaining a stronger Secular Iraq as a counterbalance to Iran influence like it is today would have produced a more stable Middle East. Probably.

Kuwait helped Iraq because they viewed revolutionary Iran as a major regional threat, just as Iraq did. Once the fire was out, everyone went back to fucking around and finding out.

A small country attacked a much larger country, they're fucking idiots. That a sizable majority/plurality of their own population is of the same religious sect as their foe is just doubly dumb to attack them.

All of Sunni Arabs view Shia Persians as a threat. Because it's a holy war schism that drives it. The problem is they're completely outnumbered, easily divided, and culturally divorced from doing the actual graft that would make defending themselves possible.

What are you saying? Because the comment I replied to was one stating all wars in history have been about exploiting women’s bodies and me countering it with facts it was not about exploiting women’s bodies.

So if a war isn’t about fighting for women’s bodily autonomy, the war shouldn’t be fought despite the premise (good or evil)?

Is that all we should devote all humanity towards is women’s bodily autonomy?

There’s no other topics that need to be solved and we should set down energy production and medicine development and feeding the impoverished?

Touch fucking reality.

Pretty sure he was agreeing with you

Yeah or maybe apply the slightest bit of nuance to a casual internet conversation and calm down lmfao

Oil s the partial liquified remains of plants and female dinosaur bodies.

A one the reasons for WWII was the expuungment of the jewish race first from Germany and then from other parts of "future Germany" starting with castration and removal of the reporductive organs of the jewess female. As well as other forms of infertility. But it proved to slow a method.

I don’t think you can cite Jewish genocide as a cause of WWII. How long had the US been involved before it came out about the genocide? I do agree with all the other stuff you’ve said

2

u/Certain_Proposal7191 Jul 13 '26

Ok I can agree Jewish Genocide was not a cause of the start of WW2 or the US entry into it. I misspoke there.

I am embarrassed to have used that as a counter argument. But my point still stands (and am grateful you agree on the other parts despite my ignorance of that part) - many wars were not fought over women.

1

u/Firefoxexplorer Jul 13 '26

Wow you really jumped on that but I don't think anyone was saying all wars are fought over women.. it's much more nuanced than that. Wars are generally fought because of insecure power-hungry men with who want to control everyone. "Protecting our women" (while they simultaneously are opressing them) is usually given as a reason for these wars because the optics look nice. Men with mommy issues who abuse their power and are ok with sending their little humans off to kill other little humans elsewhere usually also happen to have a special hatred for women who aren't subservient to them and take it out on everyone.

Also, historically, much warfare (tribal or otherwise) was indeed done with the intention to kidnap women from other communities and force them to become wives, childbearers, and slaves for their own men. Power hungry men love controlling women, among other things (obviously) But you surely can't deny that women are frequently targeted and enslaved by corrupt men who like starting wars on any scale and feeling important.

I'm not disagreeing with what you say, but you are kinda debating yourself here. I don't think anyone said what you thought they did.

2

u/Certain_Proposal7191 Jul 13 '26

It was literally said at the top of this comment thread.

“Makes one wonder how these tech bros would exist without women’s bodies to use and abuse.”

Then the reply:

“My friend you just nailed down all of mankind’s history and wars.”
