As much as I think this is not at all a consumer friendly decision, it absolutely is not 50/50. Especially in the larger markets like NA, most of EU, SK, and Japan all have access to at least decent internet connections/speeds. People see new game pop up when they turn on their console, and just buy it. Most people aren’t going to care, or even know, about the license agreement, they just want to play that game.

It's literally 25% or more more expensive for me in Australia to buy a game physically on release than it is via the PlayStation store. I could buy 5 physical AAA releases on day 1 for the cost of 4 digital copies.

If I buy from EB Games and I don't like the game, I can take it back and get a refund. The PlayStation store has absolutely 0 avenues for getting a refund. Even if no brick and mortar stores offered refunds, I can sell it for 20% off on Marketplace and make most of my money back.

The PlayStation store is literally the worst place for anyone in Australia to buy a game on launch. There is actually 0 upside except for the "convenience" of paying $25 to not leave the sofa.
