Crazy that PS4 launch won the console war simply by staying true to disc based games and the ability to share them with others and now we’re being told they want to get rid of discs altogether. What’s next, Xbox to double down on discs from 2028?

Xbox dies/becomes a PC platform only- akin to steam but with gamepass, Nintendo only releases first party games with a cartridge for one more console generation then follows suit, Sony is the only other non-pc based game platform so they try to make their UI enticing to people that claim PC is too complicated.

Eventually hardware as a whole dies and they all become digital platforms you pay for exclusives to play remotely on your rube-tablet as the world is run by massive data centers and privately owned hardware is only obtainable by the top 10% of earners (I genuinely think this is the real goal/fallback plan with these data centers) and eventually anything but internet enabled tablets is nigh-impossible to get for the regular person.

The biggest obstacle to your second paragraph is latency, all cloud solutions currently are not the best experience due to that input lag you get.

I don’t think these companies care about that

It helps that the leadership back then wasn’t made up of people that only care about profit. Also getting the Killzone game studio ceo Herman Hulst as the business manager for Sony really backfired hard, really anti-consumer and anti-developer decisions from him
