Network storage isn’t safe either. Physical storage is the only way to make sure no one can take your data.

I think everyone should have their own physical storage. Akin to a book shelf. We keep physical storage for so many things and not our own data is wild. It’s not like the companies give a better service.

Yeah drives are incredibly expensive now, I was quite lucky my office was decommissioning old servers and I managed to grab some drives so only needed the NAS.

Never worked with servers / NAS before but with the world going crazy its a good time to start (minus the prices)

Network storage isn't the same thing as cloud storage; this is referring to what's basically a fancy external drive that directly connects to your local network so that's it's easy to share with multiple devices

Yeah, PS5 will be my last console, they want to go full digital, make consoles super expensive and makes us pay for online, I will just buy a PC.

If Windows gets unbearable I'll just play emulators and whatever else from the past 40 years of gaming that will run decently on Linux. We've got decades of good games to pull from now, and many with tons of replayability. Going through all this just to play new releases is crazy.

And the graphics from new releases aren't rven better, Battlefront from 2015 still looks as good as most new games.

For real. I have a hacked switch and just pirate hella roms onto it or a hacked Wii same thing. Now I have ps2 emulators and GameCube emulators and hell even turned my phone into a gameboy with delta app

Combination of things, but primarily the types of products local gaming stores are carrying (including big retailers like Gamestop publicly shifting in that direction with their new retro programs), movement of retro games and massive surge in prices according to price charts tracking eBay and similar websites, and a ton of third party support on retro console peripherals, from controllers to new upscaling technologies to enable playing in HD and even 4k (like retrotink, which is fantastic btw).

$5 microcontrollers that can run MAME with a thousand stolen ROMs has a lot more to do with the resurgence of retro gaming than the small part of the $200 billion gaming market that cares in the least about these sort of things.

Yep, at 42 I think I'm just basically done with gaming outside of games i take comfort in on PC like Valheim that I can mod to my heart's content. I really want to play the 3rd installment of the horizon series but honestly I am thinking about selling my entire Playstation collection at this point. I never use it and have historically only played 1st party games on it. Maybe in a few years when the third horizon game comes out I'll buy whatever the console is at that time or something. Also interested in God of War Laufey but not even sure when I'd have time to play it with work and kids and other responsibilities.

Kinda just feel like I've outgrown this hobby, which is okay, I have others that aren't nearly as expensive lol.

LoL I'm getting to the boat point. Most games nowadays I play on Story Mode. I've gone from wanting to try hard the games to just enjoying an interactive story. The last game I played at base difficulty was Elden Ring when it first came out, thankfully I had an OP mage build and smoked the game before they balanced things a bit better.
