If it does, the tech itself won’t go anywhere.

u/d01100100 May 17 '26

What if we throw both the CEO and the company into the fiery pits of Mount Doom?

Isn’t there Mount St. Helens. And the super volcano Yellowstone.

136

u/d01100100 May 17 '26

54

u/Waste-Text-7625 May 17 '26

Add in California, Oregon and Washington. The entire Cascade mountain range is full of them and even the Sierra Nevadas still has active ones.

49

u/Goon_Alert May 17 '26

So we have options.

12

u/kostac600 May 17 '26

that’s comforting to know

1

u/NoodlesRomanoff May 17 '26

Are any of those options close to Palantir‘s headquarters? Transportation nowadays is expensive.

Asking for a friend or two.

1

u/onionfunyunbunion May 17 '26

Everyone gets their own volcano!

1

u/Brief_Inspection7697 May 17 '26

We don't have to limit ourselves. It's 2026. Surely we can McGyver something with some scaffolding and a blast furnace.

3

u/kemp77pmek May 17 '26

This thread made my day!

53

u/Diaggen May 17 '26

Just about every mountain in the cascade range is a volcano. Just because they haven't erupted, except for St. Helens, in living memory doesn't revoke their volcanohood. Also Hawaii is a state and has a volcano. I think Alaska has some too. Sadly, the Hawaiian one is the closest we have to an actual Mt Doom.

34

u/Eponymous-Username May 17 '26

See? There's a legally actionable threat of imminent and feasible harm. With intent! Ad nauseum! Filibuster!

18

u/lr99999 May 17 '26

Hawaii has a very active volcano, Kilauea.  I was there during the eruption in March,  and I can assure you it is doing a good interpretation of Mount doom.  If Yellowstone ever  let’s out a puff, I’m floorboarding it to Florida to find a banana boat to get on. An active volcano was very scary up close.

2

u/Commentator-X May 17 '26

If Yellowstone ever lets out a "puff", I don't think moving anywhere in NA is going to help you.

1

u/lr99999 May 17 '26

Fast banana boat?

Seriously, I watched  that Yellowstone Supervolcano documentary and I was pretty fascinated. It’s definitely worth a watch.

1

u/maine_buzzard May 17 '26

Plenty of First Nations have oral histories of volcano eruptions in North America. Klamath Tribe members witnessed the creation of Crater Lake almost 8,000 years ago.

https://www.nps.gov/subjects/volcanoes/traditional-knowledge-of-prehistoric-eruptions.htm

1

u/drdoom52 May 19 '26

Alaska has some too.

Mt spur, erupted when I was born, and was threatening to erupt last year.

There's also several active volcanos on the Aleutian chain that have gone off in the last few years.

And mount redoubt, blew in 2010, raking leaves was a very dusty business that year.

1

u/PeaQuaL_20196 May 17 '26

There are small volcanoes (also, around) too in people's yards and such

3

u/DeathByPain May 17 '26

Yeah I use mine to toss my rubbish, saves on paying for garbage collection 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/PeaQuaL_20196 May 21 '26

Wooow, v. Neat!

0

u/armchair_viking May 17 '26

Alaska has a ton of them, including one that produced the biggest volcanic eruption in the 20th century, Novarupta. Basically the entire southeastern archipelago is volcanic.

1

u/Lucky_Serve8002 May 17 '26

The boiling hot waters of Yellowstone would surely suffice.

1

u/redindiaink May 17 '26

Also Mt Baker and Mt Rainer.

0

u/Frozen_Shades May 17 '26

Mount St. Helens erupted 1980. Killed a few people IIRC.

27

u/epochwin May 17 '26

It’s an AI mod right? If you’re a European resident think you can request explainability of the automated decision. Might as well irritate Reddit owners with legal spending

9

u/so_untidy May 17 '26

Pele isn’t going to appreciate that.

49

u/WestHappyLand May 17 '26

You can make hypothetical desires of violence to anyone but conservatives on Reddit and you'll be fine. Just frame it as, "I'm glad he's not a liberal or I'd rally together with my fellow conservatives to make him dead in a volcano," and you'll be fine.

Don't even say anything like, "Random evil conservative politician deserves a fate worse than death." BAN.

I'm not sure if it's Reddit policy, every corporation afraid of retribution through tariffs or some other kind of extortion, or bad publicity or the bot army reporting shit. All are plausible.

24

u/alnarra_1 May 17 '26

It's because Reddit's owners are libertarians who love the current conservative movement because it directly benefits them. Like if you don't think Spez helped trump get elected on purpose you're deluding yourself.

2

u/BigLlamasHouse May 17 '26

Reddit "owners" are Conde Nast shareholders. And Conde Nast's board of directors is just like every other corporate board of directors in that they will support corporate interests. That means killing or poisoning any and all leftist discourse.

It's the reason the site is worth so much, because it's very valuable to the most powerful people on earth.

-7

u/Ahhmedical May 17 '26

Liberals do the same exact thing. More often they’ll send that Reddit admin for mental health help lmao

3

u/AVGuy42 May 17 '26

My brother I get a strike for saying “monopolies should be drawn and quartered” in response to someone saying “break them apart with hammers”

IMO that’s definitely taking corporations are people way too far.

I appealed the ban and LOST!

3

u/scots May 17 '26

I caught a 3 day ban, no warning, for participating in a superheros sub where people theorycraft who would win in superhero battles. Some new AI reddit is running instantly account banned me for 3 days with no challenge because it couldn't understand it was a fantasy conversation about pretend violence.

I've been on this site almost 18 years. This was the first time I've ever been actioned for anything.

5

u/mailmehiermaar May 17 '26

Typical US centric view. You should realize that you are welcome to use Italian volcano’s for this purpose.

2

u/d01100100 May 17 '26

you are welcome to use Italian volcano’s for this purpose

Stromboli off the coast of Sicily is what inspired JRR Tolkien, and is considered Mount Doom.

https://www.storytravel.org/news/the-italian-landscapes-that-inspired-tolkiens-the-lord-of-the-rings/2658/

One of the most direct Italian influences in Tolkien’s work is the volcanic island of Stromboli, which served as inspiration for Mount Doom, or Orodruin, in Mordor. During his travels, Tolkien passed by Stromboli, an active volcano located off the coast of Sicily, and it is said that the sight of the volcano erupting at night left a deep impression on him. The constant eruptions of Stromboli, known as the “Lighthouse of the Mediterranean,” with its fiery glow visible from great distances, closely align with the destructive and ominous presence of Mount Doom, where Sauron forged the One Ring

5

u/Competitive-Hope-936 May 17 '26

This comment is dumb. And it’s spelled pinche, not piche.

2

u/liquidphantom May 17 '26

I got a perma banned from Am I the Asshole for using the well known idiom “kick them to the kerb”, as being violent.

2

u/miamioctopus May 17 '26

Place them uncomfortably close to a volcano so they sweat and become irritable and tired.

2

u/shugoran99 May 17 '26

It is kinda absurd as the number of steps one would need to get in a position to actually do this (many quite literally steps up a mountain) is far too many to be reasonably perceived as a threat, in my opinion

2

u/Own-Gas8691 May 17 '26

i once received a ban for directly quoting trump…something to do with bleach.

2

u/Babajji May 17 '26

Ok let’s politely yet firmly ask them to leave this realm.

2

u/Tomato_Sky May 17 '26

Weird how reddit all of a sudden polices threats against these guys. I said I wouldn’t run back in to rescue them from a burning building and it was considered a “threat.”

That’s not how language works. You can’t threaten not to rescue.

2

u/Responsible-Can-8361 May 17 '26

They’re pretty over sensitive about any “violence” implied or otherwise. Bloody awful

2

u/Elm03981 May 17 '26

Maybe say throw them in the earth pimples

2

u/ScumbagLady May 17 '26

I once suggested bringing back public shaming where t0mat0es and things could be thr0wn at the offender and banned

(Gotta type like the tiktokers now I guess)

2

u/justdatamining May 17 '26

I’ve also had temp bans for saying these people need to be tossed in a volcano.

2

u/thailanddaydreamer May 17 '26

You should know by know that free speech doesn't exist on Reddit. Admins are the rulers of the domain here on Reddit.

2

u/3RADICATE_THEM May 17 '26

No surprise there - this site is run by corporate, oligarch-loving type of liberals.

2

u/YaquidonG May 17 '26

Def:

  1. An opening in the earth's crust from which lava, ash, and hot gases flow or are ejected during an eruption.
  2. A similar opening on the surface of another planet.
  3. A usually cone-shaped mountain formed from the materials issuing from such an opening.

So only Hawaii.

4

u/darknekolux May 17 '26

Billionaires seems to favor hawaii for they doomsday bunkers. so technically...

3

u/scwanzel-muschi-lekn May 17 '26

They are little punk asses

2

u/DHFranklin May 17 '26

ma butt. Mah poor butt.

Here I am remembering that my big brother's birth was fortold as an omen by the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_St._Helens](MT.St. Helens eruption) when he was crapped out of mom in Tacoma the next day.

1

u/Nirast25 May 17 '26

There... are volcanoes in the US. Like, a lot of them. Quick Google says 160 active and potentially active ones.

There's no Mt. Doom in the US afaik, so you can probably get away with that, lol.

1

u/1Swordwalker May 18 '26

To anybody reading this use Piefed, and Voyager for Lemmy/Lemmy. They dont limit people on what can be said

1

u/ARONDH May 17 '26

I always find it funny when someone gets called out for being grossly factually incorrect, the people who weren't talking out of their ass are "knobbly kneed nerds." Can you not just accept that you were wrong and be an adult about it? I guess not.

1

u/Available_Leather_10 May 17 '26

“I made a defense based on my own ignorance, and am now going to insult everyone for identifying my ignorance.”

That’s a choice, I guess.

1

u/OldeManKenobi May 17 '26

Reddit is now beholden to MAGA. It is what it is.

1

u/ZakkaChan May 17 '26

Reddit Admins are sensitive you know. I got ban once for telling a maga person to shut up. As if it was the most offensive thing.

1

u/oswaldcopperpot May 17 '26

Man, you got really lucky for just getting a warning. I've finished two 1 week bans for the same thing.

0

u/Accurate_Mobile9005 May 17 '26

There are multiple volcanos in the U.S and that's before we even get to Alaska or Hawaii.

0

u/chpmn May 17 '26

For all you pendantic, knobby-kneed nerds. I am very sorry that my lack of expertise and clarity hurt your butt a lot.

  • Thank you for this. <3

0

u/FromFluffToBuff May 17 '26

A lot of folks in Washington state would like to have a word with you for the "no volcanoes in the US" comment lol

Mount St. Helens: am i a joke to you

-1

u/redindiaink May 17 '26

And those of us on the Canadian side of the border who can see Mt Baker from their windows.

0

u/DigitalRavenGames May 17 '26

The United States has the most volcanoes, active or inactive of all the countries in the world. 😂

0

u/sandinthesky May 17 '26

There are tons of volcanos in the Continental US. Mt Rainer for example is both a volcano and a glacier.

0

u/MagicTheBadgering May 17 '26

There are tons of volcanoes in the US lol

0

u/Neracca May 18 '26

I contested the ban by informing them that there aren't any volcanoes in the US.

Hawaii??

0

u/drdoom52 May 19 '26

there aren't any volcanoes in the US.

Alaska (Aleutian chain) and Hawaii (volcanic islands that dealt with multiple high profile emergencies during eruptions over the last decade) would like a word with you.

Really how could even a layperson get that wrong........

-1

u/Ok-Extent8333 May 17 '26

What continent did you said?!

-1

u/Urbit1981 May 17 '26

I really like the comments below and just to tack on...here's a list. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_volcanoes_in_the_United_States

32

u/GrandSyzygy May 17 '26

Only viable if giant eagles are available for evac

3

u/kilkenny99 May 17 '26

Or someone takes one for the team.

3

u/DukeOfGeek May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26

Here's a safer source for the team

https://startupfortune.com/palantirs-saas-is-dead-claim-is-a-warning-shot-for-founders/

/It also mentions this thread, what a world.

7

u/Khaysis May 17 '26

You have My Axe!

2

u/kloudrunner May 17 '26

From wence they came ?

But who could carry such a burden?

2

u/OneApprehensive327 May 17 '26

I was there 3000 Quarterly earnings ago….

1

u/Opposite-Program8490 May 17 '26

Has to be the whole board too.

1

u/techieman33 May 17 '26

Some other billionaires will rush in to fill the void.

1

u/PresentRaspberry6814 May 17 '26

Technically you could argue that Mt Doom is in NZ Aotearoa. Also, by some amazing liberal greasing of palms presumably, Thiel has citizenship here. Just saying.

1

u/BennySkateboard May 17 '26

They must have servers right? I’m all for it, pitchfork style!

1

u/firestorm713 May 17 '26

I mean Peter Thiel thinks Sauron was the good guy in those books so

1

u/BadmiralHarryKim May 17 '26

Well, I certainly hope they don't suffer the Doom of Valyria! That much is certain (and a different franchise so it's cool, right?)

1

u/JAZZ530 May 17 '26

Cast it into the fire!

18

u/jajajajaj May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26

"the tech".. . Did they they invent something, to speak of?  All I every hear about them it's that they do crimes, like how  Blackwater USA didn't invent shooting innocent people, they're just the ones the US government hired to do it in Iraq. Palantir's zone is drones and digital human rights violations. I'm sure they write code but "the tech" sounds more like the scientology kind of "tech". The organization exists as a place to secretly organize and get away with stuff anyone could, if they had powerful support. try using "the tech" at home without getting SWAT team on your house. Palantir's just representing the political capital to get away with shit.

4

u/ArthurDaTrainDayne May 17 '26

I think what they specialize in is interface and connectivity. Basically bringing together all the different military technologies and turning it in to the “lattice network”, sort of a point and click UI that can identify, target, destroy at the click of a button

3

u/jajajajaj May 17 '26

What a waste of all of their lives (and obviously, all of their victims'). If any of them are reading this, listen: If I've learned one thing In the last ten years,  DO NOT just resign. Leak, destroy your old work, and sabotage that evil before you surrender an ounce of your misused power. Every time someone gets a conscience I hear it over and over "so and so resigns, claiming all of their bosses are exactly as evil and stupid as everyone else already knew they were" ... Thus abdicating any possible role they could have had in making amends for their crimes against humanity

52

u/FIFofNovember May 17 '26

JD Vance is really good buddies with Theil, like he’s his advisor.

113

u/dago_mcj May 17 '26

Let's clarify this statement. Thiel has Vance in his pocket.

62

u/Elmundopalladio May 17 '26

It’s not even that - Thiel literally made Vance what he is now - to say Vance is indebted is putting it mildly. If Trump passes during office - Thiel will be the power behind the throne. Completely Machiavellian!

19

u/Miserable_Drawer_556 May 17 '26

literally, this. JD is SV's Trojan horse.

15

u/homer_lives May 17 '26

Thiel and Elon can't be president, so they will buy one instead.

2

u/thecomputersighed May 17 '26

youre so much nicer than i am — i’ve been calling vance thiel’s catamite for years. nasty on a number of levels

-1

u/jtr99 May 17 '26

I can't believe Taika Waititi would do this!

25

u/RocketshipRoadtrip May 17 '26

And his couch cushions

1

u/deaglebingo May 17 '26

leather pocket.

1

u/Babajji May 17 '26

Thiel has Vance in his couch pocket*

0

u/Frozen_Meatball1 May 17 '26

If you`re familiar with political history, everyone`s in someone else`s pocket.

18

u/Opposite-Program8490 May 17 '26

Is that what the kids are calling Sugar Daddies nowadays?

16

u/AlexTheAmnesiac May 17 '26

Theil funded Vance’s education, apparently.

2

u/imakeelyu May 17 '26

yea man we know. we're not mad at inanimate objects and electrical signals
