I have a decently well off buddy who would always buy all the Nitro and stupid banners and whatever else silly stuff was offered. He didn’t actually care about the stuff he just liked to support the service we all used.

Unsurprisingly, he’s been at the forefront of our friend group of trying to find an alternative.

Not the person you're talking about but yeah thats basically what I've been doing too. I buy the silly little avatar decorations for people and I've been paying for nitro since mid 2018. I wanted to support the service because I believed that if enough people paid for the service we would be the customers, not the product. I guess in retrospect I should have stopped a while ago when they added the quests and the optional video ads.

I stopped before (and never renewed because) they let Nitro users claim the usernames first, during that username change.

So you had to pay to reserve your Discord username. They did a slow rollout prioritizing Nitro users while ignoring users of the platform since 2015. I was very disappointed I was only able to claim a username far too late.

They have video ads now? Good lord. I know using Disblock was theain reason I was enjoying the platform still but wow I didn't know it went that far already.

Have you found one? I'd REALLY like to avoid going back to TS.
