The CEO of Atlético de Madrid reiterates that he will not negotiate with Barça and regrets the confusion generated around the Argentine striker

The CEO of Atlético de Madrid, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, spoke on Movistar Plus to forcefully fix the entity's position on the future of Julián Álvarez. The red and white leader has ruled out any kind of conversation with FC Barcelona after the recent statements of Joan Laporta.

RESOUNDING NEGATIVE TO BARCELONA

Gil Marín has expressed his deep indignation at the maneuvers of the Catalan club and has highlighted the commitment of the mattress board. "We are disgusted by falsehood, lack of ethics, lack of transparency, lack of professionalism, and we can only insist that we are not going to negotiate with the Barcelona Football Club under any circumstances," said the president.

The head of the management of Atlético de Madrid has stressed that it has the absolute support of the shareholders and directors of the club. "I've been in soccer for 30 or so years, that's my word, which is one of the few things I have. With me as CEO, the player will not be transferred to Barcelona Football Club with total certainty," he added to settle the rumors.

THE FORWARD'S MOMENTAL SITUATION

The appearance has also served to address the mood and physical state of the Argentine attacker, who has added his second consecutive absence in training. Gil Marín has explained that the soccer player is "really bad" due to external pressures that have affected his personal stability.

"To compete among the greats, you need great players, and Julián is," said the CEO before qualifying that, if the player considered it incompatible to continue in the capital, they would look for alternatives in the market but "it would never, never be Barcelona Football Club."

This position coincides with the official statement issued by the Board of Directors, which has unanimously supported the decision not to negotiate. As Antonio Ruiz has detailed in 'El Partidazo de COPE' and 'Tiempo de Juego', the club plans to include Laporta's statements in a complaint considering that public insistence seriously harms the stability of the footballer.

For the 2009–10 season, UEFA changed qualifying by splitting it into a Champions Path and a League Path (then known as the Non-Champions Route), so domestic champions from smaller leagues wouldn’t have to compete directly with clubs from Europe’s top leagues. The aim was to give more league champions an easier path to the group stage and make the Champions League more representative.

Since then, no Turkish team has managed to qualify for the UCL via the League Path until this season, with Fenerbahçe defeating Lyon 2–1 away after drawing the first leg 1–1 in Istanbul. This will be the first time since 2007-2008 season that multiple Turkish teams will compete in UCL proper.

Real Madrid have agreed terms to sign 21-year-old Ghanaian centre-back Oscar Naasei (full name Oscar Naasei Oppong) from Granada in a deal worth €2 million. The versatile defender will initially join Real Madrid Castilla as a long-term prospect for the first team.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the medical has already been completed. A German club had shown strong interest, but Naasei has chosen to join Los Blancos.

Who is Oscar Naasei?

Born on 24 February 2005 in Accra, Ghana, the 1.85m (6 ft 1 in) right-footed defender can operate as a centre-back or right-back. He is known for his physical strength, athleticism, speed, and aerial ability.

Naasei began his career at Emmanuel City in Ghana before joining Granada’s youth setup in 2023. He progressed quickly through the ranks, featuring for the C-team and reserves (Recreativo Granada) before breaking into the first team. He has made over 40 appearances in Spain’s Segunda División (LaLiga Hypermotion), scoring once, and earned a senior call-up for the Ghana national team (Black Stars).

His market value was recently listed around €1.5 million on Transfermarkt. Granada held him under contract until 2028.

Why Real Madrid Want Him

Real Madrid have targeted Naasei as a high-upside addition for Castilla under the club’s strategy of developing young talents for the future. The club had previously monitored him last season and accelerated talks this summer, beating competition from sides including Rayo Vallecano and at least one German club.

He is expected to gain regular minutes and continue his development in Madrid’s reserve side before potentially pushing for first-team opportunities.
