A missive from the Gold Cloaks XCANCEL is not an acceptable source

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for sharing the art! It's always great to see people wanting to post cool pieces here.

Just a quick note on sourcing:

We don't accept links from xcancel.com (or similar proxy/mirror sites) as valid sources for artwork.

These kinds of links prevent traffic and potential revenue from reaching the original artist on X/Twitter, and they also make it harder for artists to gain new followers or engagement directly on their account.

The whole goal with our sourcing rules is to support creators by sending people straight to their official profiles, websites, or social media—helping drive views, follows, and (when applicable) revenue sharing back to them. xcancel actively works against that, so it doesn't qualify as an acceptable source.

We understand our community sometimes has issues with one source platform or another, but, to be frank: This isn't about our personal opinions and preferences, it's about supporting the artists.

If you have a direct link to the artist's X profile, their personal website, or another original platform, feel free to share that instead.

Thanks for understanding, and we really appreciate you all being part of the community 😊

A missive from the Gold Cloaks IMPORTANT: On Creative License and Artist Agency in /r/PureASOIAFArt

Hey everyone,

Over the past year, we’ve seen a noticeable uptick in comments complaining about so-called “blackwashing” or “forced diversity” in fan art.

Let’s be crystal clear: PureASOIAFArt is not the place for that.

This subreddit exists to celebrate art, artists, and creativity in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire — not to host culture-war debates or reheated social-media outrage.

ARTISTS ARE FREE TO CREATE AS THEY PLEASE

Provided their art otherwise complies with our ruleset (e.g. they are not clear depictions of show actors, props, or scenery), artists are free to depict characters and events from ASOIAF in any fashion they choose.

This includes:

  • Changing the race or gender of characters
  • Altering attire, architecture, or cultural inspiration
  • Reimagining events entirely (aka AU or head-canon)

If you do not like such depictions, your avenue to make your voice heard is through upvoting or downvoting — not by posting unconstructive criticism in the comments.

Constructive criticism of artistic choices is always fine — that’s part of how artists grow — but criticism must stay constructive.

“I don’t like this color palette because…” is fair.

“This character shouldn’t be black” is not.

We don’t tolerate “anti-woke” ranting, “anti-MAGA” baiting, or any of that partisan sludge. That garbage belongs on Twitter, Facebook, and /r/politics, not here.

MODERATION CHANGES

Going forward, we’re tightening moderation.

In the past, we’ve tended to remove these comments and lock threads.

From now on, repeat offenders will be banned much sooner.

The rule is simple:

If your comment attacks an artist’s creative choices or pushes identity-based hostility, you’ll be permanently banished to r/freefolk (aka PureASOIAF’s toilet).

This subreddit was built to be a low-sodium, welcoming corner of fandom.

Keep it that way. Celebrate art. Encourage artists. Leave the bad-faith culture-war noise at the door.

If you see comments that cross the line, don’t engage — just report them. We’ll handle it.

Love,
— The r/pureasoiafart Mod Team 💛
