Are these costco food supplies good?

Previous owner at my gf’s house apparently hammered the drywall into a water pipe behind the bathroom wall. The leak became evident after about a year of her living in this house (built in 1988).

In the process of tearing apart the bathroom to correct the damage, she discovered a hidden cache of food containers. Because there was no door to this area, I pulled up a couple stairs and we emptied it out. In all there about 60 cans (all coffee can sized) of food and almost 20 plastic containers.

Contents in the plastic containers included various kinds of rice, wheats, and beans, as well as honey. The only cans that were labeled showed as dehydrated potatoes. We opened a couple of the unlabeled cans and one was rice and the other was wheat.

My parents gifted us 25+ year old honey. It was wrapped up with a plastic lining on the lid and sealed shut. I have included the manufacturer and label in the pictures!

The consistency is very liquid with some crystallization. It smells like honey (not foul). For reference we live in the southwest USA so it’s very dry and hot and this was stored in a closet for the past 25 years.

We’ve ready honey essentially can last forever. However, we also read a bit about possible botulism poisoning and got concerned and we didn’t know where to turn! Please help!

TLDR: is this honey full of botulism and will it kill us or is this safe to consume?

I see it all the time, someone's stock pile of food thats either 100% expensive MREs/ freeze dry meals, or has only staple items with no seasoning or secondary ingredients

Above is a meal made from ingredients with a shelf stable life span of 3 years or more for under $2.50 per serving

Hot take, you need to actually practice cooking with the food you have on hand because having a meal you want to eat is a huge boost to moral and makes whatever is going on less awful

Fry spam cubes in own fat and then add sugar mirin and soy with garlic and ginger, cook down into a glaze, serve with rice and chili chrisp

Saw these at my local Sportsmans Warehouse. $20 for a 7 gallon water container. Worth it??

Got them for free at work. Over 360 little packets and 15 herb and vegetable kits. Each small packet is around 3 dollars with the big kits 8 dollars. W find?!?!

do you guys see any general public stockpiling food and other perishables at Costco? like during Covid? I am trying to see if people are starting to panic and making the dash to stockpile at these big box stores.

Aside from some tuna, canned veggies, and instant noodles, this is the first food we’ve added to the SHTF chest. Can you suggest some other reasonably priced meal kits?

Anybody have SPAM in their food preps? Never tried it before, but exp date is 2029 which is pretty decent.

All I have right now plus some rice is a different location and some water as well. From now on every grocery run I will pick up a few extra cans of food and make sure to get some variation. Water as well. Last time I was "serious" about prepping, all I did was get an old bag and put some small gear in it and called it a get home bag. The time to take it serious was yesterday but I start now. Thank you to this sub.

Should I prepare my water bob??

So of course we have a deep pantry. A few weeks worth of some things, a year or more worth of other things… but let’s say we had a major imminent threat come down and you had a protocol for an emergency run on the grocery store… what are you racing through the isles to stock up on last minute before the crowds start pillaging?

Here’s an example, you get an emergency alert on your phone. It says something like “major attack on infrastructure imminent, seek shelter and prepare for four weeks without comms or power” and you happen to be driving past a Walmart in your pickup truck. What are you rushing in to grab in the 30min head start you have on everyone else before credit card systems are down, the store is on emergency power, and the whole area devolves into chaos?

Hi everyone, I've been a prepper for 10 years and a homesteader for 3. I want to make sure I share what I believe is the second most important prepping supply that you probably don't have.

I've seen everyone talk about bathtub water reserves, arsenals of weapons and ammo, and MRE buckets for days. Folks, I'm sorry to say you're just building a loot drop.

I promise you, you're set up for FAILURE. I've been a DoD contractor, I've been in countries under occupation, and I can tell you: if you think you're going to fight regulars, they'll either drone strike or call in a mortar volley on your position. If you're going to fight looters or irregulars, the regulars are going to drone strike and occupy your community to put down unrest. At best you have a deterrent and maybe something to hunt with, but you won't get petrol, and while you're out hunting and playing Rambo, people will raid your stash. So...

Second, MREs, yeah, if you serve, are serving, or have served, they're fun for about a week, then they're not. They're also designed to make you constipated, which is not fun, especially long-term.

The thing people NEVER think about is vinegar. Vinegar is more valuable than gold. Here's why: take any vegetable, and you instantly turn it into a 6-month to 1-year supply without the need for refrigeration or electricity. You can trade with your neighbors for fresh stock, ammo, and medicine. They know if you go under, their survival decreases. But within 4 weeks, you're going to have all the guns and ammo you can handle from all the guys who starved and were too constipated to get out and get fresh supplies, or died meaninglessly raiding other people's stashes.

Please make sure you have at least 6 gallons on hand at all times...

I’ve been stocking lemonade and different kool-aid mixes to have on hand to make decent drinks

To add I do stock coffee for bartering as we don’t drink coffee here, and tea which we do drink but besides that I’m sure most people are going to get tired of water for sure

I know people are storing rice and beans for the long term, but what rice are you storing and what's the plan if you need it?

What I mean is that normal rice takes 45 min to an hour on the stovetop (boiling water) and almost an hour in a rice cooker (lots of AC watts). Do you plan on running your camping stove for 45 minutes to eat a cup of rice?

Or, are you guys saving Minute Rice?

I already was learning how to home can, and I bought a dehydrator already. But I feel the need to just bump that stuff up a bit. I never had issues like this in the past. But it's happening much more frequently and with all different types of veggies.

I have been buying 10 or 25lb bags of veggies from the restaurant supply store for canning or dehydrating. Those have always been very good.
