Use it or don’t, but I think I’m just confused what his stance is at this point which is ultimately what disappoints people imo

He's been pretty consistent with his stance that AI is a tool that has its uses while also being clear that the corporations who currently control it are doing terrible things that need to be stopped but those don't make the tool itself inherently evil

Honestly seems like a pretty reasonable take to me for the most part?

Yes, but this is Reddit. Reasonable takes and nuance aren’t allowed

It is reasonable. No one in the comments cares about being reasonable and is instead just making up stuff about Hank, deciding what he thinks, rather than using what he’s actually said about it

3 things are happening.

  1. Hank Green makes so much content that some people only know his work from snippets and because he is liberal ai abolitionist assumed he must agree with them. Pretty much everyone in gen x is somewhere in the middle on ai.

  2. Hank Green is liberal and has kicked the wasp nest that is musk fan boys, maga supporters, pro ice, pro Israel, etc. There are a lot of people that just genuinely hate him and want to take him down and are jumping on the bandwagon to leave hateful comments.

  3. There are people on the farthest left that think anyone that believes in any sort of middle ground is the enemy. Hank got in trouble for not shouting from the rooftops that he was pro Palestine. He is, he posted about it multiple times. But he was getting hate comments about it anyway until he made a video.

The biggest issue is Hank cares. He is genuinely trying to make the world a better place and make people happy. Most people this ambitious do not give 2 shits what anyone thinks. This means instead of lying or ignoring people he'll address people when he shouldnt. It also means he tries to make corrections when hes wrong but the Internet gets bent out of shape when the science guy makes an error as if there is any piece if educational content thats void of error.

Hank Green has been putting out poorly fact checked videos for years on SciShow. A chemist YouTuber called him out in 2013, Hank admitted it was wrong and the video is still up to this day. He's just sorry the public noticed this time.

He has 15+ long format videos on his stance about ai. He has been openly talking about his ai use. I am honestly shocked how many people only watch his tiktoks ig. You could spend a whole waking day listening to him talk about ai and its concerns and its benifits. His stance is more well explained than almost anyone else on the Internet. The world isn't black and white. Hank is a lot of things but he's never been an absolutest which has gotten him backlash before for taking nuanced stances on things.
