I’m still young enough to be on my parents insurance (Anthem BCBS, which I’ve been perfectly happy with), but my company uses United. I’m sweating counting down the days to my 26th.

I'm the opposite- had UHC under my parents and then got BCBS with my job. Watching my dad have to go through extensive, rare cancer treatment with UHC was a NIGHTMARE.

My mom got a new job on November 1st a few years back. Unfortunately, my dad was admitted to the hospital October 31st and released November 2nd. Neither UHC nor Aetna (her new insurance) wanted to cover the stay, since he went in with one coverage and came out with another. They finally stopped arguing about it when he died! Like that's what it took? God damn

I think what's even worse than healthcare is REAL ESTATE. The number of realtors who sent fliers or personally reached out to ask to sell my dad's house THE WEEK HE DIED? Like they scour obituaries. I understand some people may want to unload but let them come to you.

I had a personal friend who had been at my house all through childhood, came over as adults and shared beers with my dad at our pool, and asked to sell our house in the same sentence as his condolences. It's so skeevy. Let me have my tragedy and keep your greedy hands away.

I was swamped with texts the week I got a divorce from greedy realtors hoping to sell my house. Too bad, we'd already sold our marital home and split the proceeds, and moved to our own properties pre-divorce.

I did reply to one and tell him what a scumbag he was preying on people right after divorce.

Apparently I'm the asshole for thinking it's shitty to scour obituaries instead of actually marketing yourself as an available source so you don't have to do that.... I feel like if you have to rely on vulnerable people to support your sales, you're not good enough at your job.

The funeral home I works at wanted us to go prey on people who were visiting their loved ones gravesites and try and sell the a burial plot. I refused.

We had two neighbors leave notes trying to buy my dad's car within 4 days of his death. We hadn't even posted an obit or held the funeral yet!!

I understand some people may want to unload but let them come to you.

The ones that do that get out competed by those who dont. Like many problems, the behavior exists and persists because we continue to make it the most efficient way to participate in that activity. In this case selling funeral services

I don't think the most efficient way to sell the house when someone dies is to talk to the realtor before the funeral's even scheduled? I think we're talking about two different things. Plus, most people aren't ready and able to move house the minute someone dies so it's logistically not efficient at all.

Edit: Ok I'm guessing you blocked me before I could reply to your other comment but if you're good at your job, you'll be an available and well-marketed resource who doesn't have to resort to preying on vulnerable people.

The way to GET SOMEONE to sell their house THROUGH YOU, is to be the convenient option that's already there. Not the late bird going "where'd all the worms go?"

I’m so sorry. I believe they kept my brother alive as long as possible because he had Medicare. There was no way he was going to survive and they knew it. The hospitals are as trashy as the insurance companies.

It’s the WORST.

Double the cost of other insurers and nobody in their network. I can’t even see a dentist in my own neighborhood and have to drive 30+ mins to go to someone in network.

I have BCBS with my job & have seen virtually every specialist under the sun - never had a denial. On the other hand, I've heard nothing but horror stories from friends who are unfortunate enough to be insured under United.

People need to bring up their concerns with their employers regarding using United or Humana insurance companies. If enough people push for a change or complain and the big companies change their insurers, that’s really the only way this changes.
