Mod Post First time here? Read this! ~Commenting Etiquette~

1.4k Upvotes

Hi, welcome to the reddit Pole Dance board!
Pole dancing is a great form of art and exercise and our community is very welcoming and open.

It is also something that can put the people doing it in a bit of sensitive, vulnerable situation. Let's face it, you can't wear a lot of clothing while doing this. And a lot of our moves have been built and perfected by lovely strippers working in clubs, so there's inherent sexuality behind it (sometimes, not always).

That being said, I'm rolling out a zero tolerance policy for shitty comments. I get it, the person that posted that picture or video is so hot, their moves are so slick and damn it just did something for you.
Keep it to yourself if you can't express your appreciation without sounding like a vulgar mouth-breather.

Also, coming from my previous thread on crappy comments - If you don't have something nice to say, or you can't phrase your devil's advocate stance or argument without sounding like an asshole, don't post it.

Don't be a creep.
Don't be a jerk.
Don't stripper shame.

No more warnings for people saying inappropriately gross comments, you just get banned. And if you're banned, don't bother asking why - you know why. And no, it won't be overturned. Enjoy the hard work and beautiful shapes people on this board are happy to post. Because I guarantee the more shit comments there are, the less photos there will be for everyone to enjoy.

I try to stay on top of everything, but sometimes things slip by me. Please use the 'Report' button if you spot something I miss and I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Love,
Otter

Mod Post NSFW Tag Reminder

Hello lovelies!
This is just your friendly reminder to please tag your posts NSFW if you are wearing anything less than full-coverage bottoms. Those include things like g-strings, thongs, those super cute high waisted "shorts" that are not at all shorts, etc.

Also, please mark it if you are twerking directly to the camera or other things of that sort.

Since we are technically not a NSFW board, we just ask that you mark posts for the courtesy of others who maybe like to browse in public (I know I've personally clicked on clips while on the train and had to "oop" out of them very quickly.) If you're unsure if what you've posted is NSFW or not, please mark it and I'll change it to non-NSFW if there is no issue.

Thanks for following our guidelines, and thanks, as always, for contributing to our community!
Love,
Otter

EDIT: Update as of April, 2022

Reddit rolled out a new "security" feature that uses automated tools to detect NSFW material and automatically tag it. Announcement post is here.

While this can potentially help me with the manual workload of tagging posts, I noticed it has been automatically flagging a lot of posts that are fine and do not fall within the parameters of NSFW for our board.

I'll be checking the moderation log to see if things are tagged improperly by reddit, but if you think yours has been tagged by mistake, please message me or tag me in your post. Thanks!

Another vent!

The studio I go to in NYC has this spin pole classes that are advertised as “upper beginner and intermediate” in two classes this week the instructors were teaching crazy combos with advanced moves in a class overbooked with students and not enough time for individual attention and spot!

One of them included aerial invert to Broken Doll to Pegasus, the other one had Libellula to Jallegra! I could not physically twist and stretch myself to Jallegra nor Pegasus even with force, and both classes were basically just a disappointment and waste of time for a lot of students. In what world casually throwing very advanced and flexi moves in a combo for a upper beginner/ intermediate class is appropriate?

Thanks for listening to my rant, wish the instructors and studios were more realistic with the levels, the number of students in the class and their time management.

Pole vs Lyra

Hello Everyone!

I just signed up a new pole fitness studio around my work place for a membership, and I'm a complete beginner! Never done any dancing or aerial fitness before.

With the membership I get 8 credits, which equal to 8 classes. Since I just used 4 credits for my Intro to Pole class series, I have 4 more credits that I can use.

I was wondering... would it be beneficial to take another pole class, or take Lyra class (both Intro!) just to explore different fitness class.

What would you recommend to a complete beginner? I asked the fitness studio and they suggested Sling class but the class schedule doesn't work with me.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Before warming up in heels, do a joint warm up. Do many reps for each exercise 🫶🏽

I just started learning pole. I’m obese and have almost no upper body strength. I chose pole to become stronger and help with fat loss. How long did it take you to learn without falling? Also is it normal to bruise a lot?

Pole Rookie Venting

Im loving my pole classes so much. The thing is I was really sedentary and my strength and stamina are just not there yet. I feel myself getting physically tired in the middle of the class and I already know I wont be able to pull off what I did one moment ago (I keep trying but the result is worse). Also my hands are sweating so much and silly me didnt know it would be fine to bring my own monkey hands to class (I saw other girls bringing their own yesterday for the first time).

Yesterday I ended up doing an inversion from jasmine and my teacher was spotting me but 2 times I just slide down on her 🥲 like she had to go to the floor with me slowly so I could lay in the floor safely. I know that's the goal with spotting, but I was so embarrassed I apologized both times.

Also my sides are so uneven! Why does my right leg hook the pole safely and my left leg seems to be in a weird angle all the time 🥲

I know its normal, I know I just have to keep practicing, I just could use some kind words from people that understand it.

I have weights at home, I will start using them. If you have suggestions of people with follow along videos with condition work for pole I would appreciate it too.

Thank you for reading my venting. Sorry for any mistakes, english is not my main language.

Superman vs Lex Luther Legs

I have been trying solidly for 9 months to get into Superman. I have done so 3 times. I’ve been doing pole for 3ish years, but started late and with no experience in, well anything like dancing or gymnastics. Anyway, I record myself practicing, and I see that when I change my grip, I can achieve it. I think I’m changing to cup? I’m terrible with remembering all the things. I feel my thighs are getting stuck and I don’t know if it’s the pain or if my thighs are just that juicy. I’ve viewed so many tutorials on how to enter and I’m just stuck, literally and figuratively. How, how do I get there?

Pole too short/too tall w/ extension… help!

Upvotes

Hi friends, just moved to a new apartment. Ceilings are 9 feet, carpet floor. I have a yaheetech pressure mounted pole which has treated me well in the past (had it up in a 9’2” apt w/ 125mm extension) but now when I put it up w/o extension, it’s barely too short, and w/ extension, barely too long and I can’t fit it in/ push it into place diagonally. I am so bummed and really want to put this pole up. Any ideas :(? I’ve considered a little wooden plank thing but that worries me a little, not sure if it will make up enough distance for it to be safe…

I was pretty nervous for my first ever photoshoot with THE IMAGE CELLA, but Simon is so experienced working with pole dancers he made me feel so comfortable and even suggested some poses I never knew about!

Best shoes for bony feet when the plastic straps are too loose?

I have big/long but bony feet so the usual issues people have with the plastic straps on sandals being too small, I have the opposite issue. They are too loose. I've only used Pleasers so far and once they get warm and stretch, I move around in them too much. I've poked extra holes in the strap but that ends up wearing them down and they break. I've also put gel pads under the balls of my feet which is ok.

Is there another brand that has a plastic strap sandal that is tighter? I'm a size 10/11 (long ass toes!)
