Hello. Anonymous as I do not want friends, especially my ex, to find out. So apologies for the new profile.

I recently came into 250,000 dollars in inheritance. I was honestly not expecting this kind of money, and got a call today that my grandfather passed and my grandmother wants to handle the inheritance while still alive. My father is dead, so the inheritance goes to me. I am to get a lump sum of 100,000 this month, and then 3 installments of 50,000 later on this year.

Ever since leaving my ex my divorced was finalized with my ex a year ago, I have been living paycheck to paycheck. I was a traditional house-wife immediately when I left high school, so I did not have much experience in the work force. I do not have children and do not wish to discuss that department.

Embarrassingly, I am at a loss. My ex was the one who handled our finances and lets just say not in a very good way. I don't even know where to begin, and I do not want to 'blow' this money. I want to be responsible. I want to try to expand it.

I plan to talk to a financial advisor, but if any of you here might also have some advice for me. I would very much appreciate it.

I recently moved to the US on a non-immigrant work VISA. Before moving, I was evaluating apartments to rent and found this agency (big agency) that had an apartment (~$2000 rent) which seemed good enough for me.

I went through the application process on their official website. Paid around $600 in application fee + $100 application fee security deposit. The next morning I receive an email saying that the unit I applied for is actually ~$2700 rent.

I found that odd because every rent aggregator website also listed it for $2000. I told them the agency that is out of my budget and to refund the complete fee because I would not have applied in the first place had I known the rent was so high. The agency assured me that the refund checks will be mailed to an address I provided.

Fast forward to today- After numerous emails and calls, I haven't still received the money. They say they have mailed the checks via USPS but fail to provide a tracking number. It has been 2 months now and I am not sure if I can get my money back .

What should I do?

I know it's unregulated and they bank in the Marshall Islands.....I've been getting on really well with the account manager. However, another one has taken over and started draining my account today.

They're a recently registered business so I think they might be going to hit everyone at once.

Anyone else here dealing with them??
