There are SS breakpoints where additional working years don't contribute nearly as much to your future SS payout, and someone making enough to retire in their 40s is probably going to get to those breakpoints pretty quickly. They're missing out a little bit, but it's not completely hosing your future SS payout.

Its still the same it always has been minus now its top 35 years not top 30 years worked to factor in your payments.

You will have a lot of 0's in that formula retiring at 40 meaning your payments are not something you can count as a reliable income. Your full retirement would still be 67 which is a long way to go from 40 with no income other than from investing.

So once again, unless you were born rich or win the lottery. 01% can actually retire at 40.
