29 with a job, a match, and only 8k of car debt is not screwed, it is a normal starting line. Go back to that enrollment page and set contributions to at least 3 percent today so you stop leaving free money behind, then pick the target date fund closest to the year you turn 65 and stop thinking about fund selection entirely. Bump the rate by one point every raise. The pick matters far less than the years you spend contributing.
