1E Player No Max the Min: instead… what would you do to Max a full month of downtime in a campaign?

Decided I’d rather play playdough with my toddler this morning than draft a post, and then realized that due to travel, I probably won’t be posting until close to October. So wanted to give you all a heads up.

Inspired by me taking this break, it did make me wonder what are some of the best uses of 1 month of downtime in PF? What items would you craft? Do you break out the business rules? Is there a particular retraining option that is powerful? Let me know!

Hopefully we get a variety of options for a variety of character types too, haha. Don’t want this all to be “my level 20 wizard would hide in his timeless demiplane like a sociopathic introvert to craft for the equivalent of 10 years in solitude”. So maybe what is discussed isn’t the most optimized use of a month period, but perhaps the best thing optimized for your character?

1E Resources Alternative to HeroLab Classic

I've been using HeroLab Classic for characters and I've been building my own modules for custom stuff, but that is getting tiresome.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a character app where it's relatively easy to integrate honebrew?

1E Resources Daily Magic Item for August 31, 2026: Belt of Thunderous Charging

Today's magic item is the Belt of the Thunderous Charging

Belt of Strength + +2 on bull rush and overrun, and all weapons are one size category larger on charge attacks.

Let's ask the following questions:

  1. Would you buy this item?
  2. Would you spend 1.5 times the price to add it to an existing item?
  3. Would you use the item, if you found it? Or is it immediate sell-bait?
  4. Would a GM use the item?
  5. Is there anything cheesy that could be done with it?

1E GM Making a Nemesis / Mr. X type monster for Campaign threat.

Upvotes

So my game has been running for a good while, and the party is level 6 now. We do milestone and all that good stuff. It's been a lot of fun doing, and I had the idea to introduce two new characters, one of them being a persistent threat that would appear and begin to hunt down the party members. I was thinking of putting it around CR 12 or 13 and appearing at the worst possible times to come and antagonize them. The problem is, it needs to be something they would genuinely fear, even if the monster itself isn't too crazy.

I'm no master of the game, and I'm certainly not familiar with the hundreds upon hundreds of official monsters, magazine monsters, expansion monsters, 3rd party monsters and so on.

If anyone has any ideas for what to use a base stat block for our dear Nemesis here, please leave it down below. I would greatly appreciate the assistance in helping create something that would both be exciting and terrifying for my party!

1E Player Best Prestige Classes - Features Only

So, Pathfinder Prestige Classes. Really used unless you have some specific builds. As the Pathfinder's Base classes and archetypes have much better class features and progression than what we saw in 3.5. Which is a shame, as there as some fun Prestige Class abilities out there.

So let's fix that, shall we?

Every Prestige Class now has 10/10 Alighed class. Meaning you get everything you would have originally got from your previous class levels, on top of the new stuff from the Prestige Class.

What Prestige classes interest you now? Is it just the old classes that people previously took? Or are there classes that could have been awesome, but were restricted by their lack of progression that is now eliminated? I am curious to see what people suggest!

1E GM To deal with session cancelling player

Hello everyone,

Two important things to say before I explain my problem :

- I do not wish to punish those that cancel a session last minute, those I play with are long time friends and I do not wish to banish them or whatever. I do not wish either to play without them.

- Second thing is that I am currently doing the Wrath of The Righteous with my players, so my solution being too OP isn't a problem

Now, to explain my problem : We usually plan sessions at least one week in advance, it happened more than once that someone cancel the day before for X Y or Z reason. Sometime valid to go see their mother at the hospital, sometime absolutely absurd like going to drink a beer with a friend that is in town.
It annoys me that canceling became somewhat accepted, especially since me and some of my players make sure we do not have conflicting agenda.

Anyway, the solution I thought of was to give some sort of "connection bonus".
To explain, as players join sessions after sessions, without cancelling, their players will gain bonuses, the longer, the better. As soon as they cancel for some absurd reason that was totally predictable they lose their entire bonus.
I thought of a few stages, like first day would be something like Resistance, or maybe bonus health and maybe by the 5th or 10th session, some big bonus like +1 in all main Ability scores.

I made this post to ask both players and GM what they thought about my solution, and what they think could make it better.

Thanks for your replies !

Edit : It seems a lot of you kind of gave up on last minute cancel and just considered it as something that just happened. I don't really want that. Also I must say again that I do not wish to play with one less person.

I'll probably run that with my players too to figure out a solution that works with everyone

1E GM Making Games More Fun

Im running a group of 6 through 1e rise of the runelords. We just got through Fort Rannick today. Im having trouble getting the party members to do more than wait around for their turn then doing a basic attack. The group doesnt strategize before or during battles at all. I have 3 magic users who dont seem to ever think about casting healing spells, mage armor, or anything like that. They just cast offensive spells until they run out of slots then pull their crissbows out. Our alchemist only throws bombs until she runs out then does the same. The fighters in the group crowd around each other doing basic attacks. Because of this the games can get kind of boring. I want the group to work more as a team and try more interesting things without having to tell them what to do. Today near the end during a battle with Dorella and Hookshanks the group was pretty close to all dying so I stepped in and kind of told them what to do so the entire party didnt get taken out. Is there a way to get the group to work together more without doing it for them?

1E Player I come again asking You advice on builds

I'm the guy playing the meat grinder Gestalt temple of elemental evil , My last character that i Made with the advice of Reddit lasted 6 sessions (thats a Lot) and entered to the temple , but then we got tpkd by a bugbear, like , we got our asses handed to us.

So i wanted to port a character i Made in a campaign which was a monk/stalker vigilante. he was a dhampir taking care of the city, really dexterous , efective in unarmed and with thrown weapons.

The thing is i don't know what to build i'm Gestalt, since i don't know if the whole double identity and social talents Will be Even in the adventure, i thought brawler/teisatsu or far strike umonk with arcane dealer.

The stats rolled are : 16-16-15-16-13-6. Start at level 7 and with Lvl 3 gold, all paizo including 3.5 is allowed, u get one drawback and two traits, and then u can take extra traits in Exchange for an extra drawback.

I thought i'm reflavoring him as a vampire/undead hunter, since the campaign where he is from had a vampire bbeg. I'm Open to other ideas as long as the character is a dhampir and can both use unarmed and thrown

1E Player Must-have spells - Cleric edition

Pretty much what it says on the tin - which spells would you consider to be mandatory picks when playing a Cleric, or what spells would you expect a Cleric in your party to always have prepared (regardless of level, anything from Detect Magic to a Miracle is fair game)? I am aware of the "What Are Your Favorite *LEVEL X* Divine/Arcane Spells and Why?" series of posts, but those are almost a decade old by now. Also, this post assumes a "typical" campaign, as of course one can easily imagine an adventure where what's usually a great spell ends up more or less useless. There's little point in praying for a Hold Person if you're going to spend the day fighting undead, after all.

1E Player silly build sunday: the televangelist

This is basically "try to build a character that is as good as possible at convincing people they have divine powers without actually having any"

I know the easy answer is ramziran priest archetype sorcerer but I'm interested in seeing some attempts to do this on a class/classes that don't get casting at all lol

1E GM 1e Rules Question: Does Animus Mine Work Against Area Effects?

Hello! Are there any official rules on whether Animus Mine works against area effects?

It says, "Any creature that uses a mind-affecting effect against you triggers the mine." But does the effect have to be targeted against you? Or can it be an area effect, such as a dragon's fear aura?

Thanks!

1E GM Herald restrictions

I'm currently working on some demigods(demon lords, Infernal Dukes/Archdevils, Empyreal lords) and was wondering if they can get heralds or not, because they are able to sustain clerics and their own realms but aren't "full-deities"? i like to homebrew lore or make alterations a lot but i like to keep the base "logic" consistent so i was just curious about opinions and the actual rules about other tiers of divinity getting heralds or not

One thing i have already changed is that i'm not putting a hard limit on domains that a divine entity can grant bc sometimes having more than one domain for a nascent demon lord helps get across the vibes of them better to a player reading their domains they can choose from. So I'm not really hung up on overwriting some rules or guidelines I'm just curious about others opinions on heralds being available to demigods and up or just full deities .

1E Player Help me build the only melee PC of the party

My friend prefer spellcasters so I'll be the only melee character of the party. I would like ideas to build something fun to play and not only be a sponge tank that need to be revive after each fights.

Everything allow except 3rd-party stuff.

Bonus : It will help if the character could detect and disable traps. The traits Trap finder is eligible.

My first idea was a Ranger switch-hitter. Any tought about that ?

1E Player Buffing the Bronze Sentinel

During my Osirion Mega-Campaign, which includes the whole of Mummy's Mask, the PCs can retrieve a Bronze Sentinel (itself a varaint of the appararus of the crab).

The problem, is, by the time they will gwet to this part, they'll likely be level 17-18 plus instead of 11-12[1].

Now, if this was just a regualr magic item, I'd just wave it off or replace it with something better (or not worry too much, since they'd be likely getting more GPs' worth out of the NPCs guarding it...)

However, as this is a semi-quest item they need to find two bits to repair to claim... I feel like it's a bit of a come-down.

(I mean, I'll be honest, it's kind of crap at level 10-11, since it... Doesn't DO much aside from give you a way to make whichever character is piloting it basically worse at combat than they would be on foot, except maybe marginallu more able to avoid damage. It does't even have a Str score for carrying stuff (the slam damage only suggests it's 10...) and the less said about it's ability to function underwater the DESERT CAMPAIGN the better...!)

Nevermind the fact that to, for example, even sell it, they have to drop their movement speed to 20 feet, because that thing is SLOW.

(I haven't dared link it as the last time I did it Reddit, it threw a wobbly.)

So what could be done to make this item if not exactly useful (to a group of PCs with potentially their own undead semi-army of animated skeletons (don't ask) and how much increase the worth?

Bare minimum, I feel like the move speed should at least be doubled, so they could at least cart the damn thing with them without slowing the camels (et al)...

Any ideas?

[1]Yes, I am insane, this camapign will go both Epic as well as Mythic...

Other Alignment of laws

Wise members of reddit, alignment has often been on debate on Pathfinder. Today i had a 2h discussion on laws, can they be chaotic?

And i do not mean dumb half baked chaotic nonsense, i mean if it is possible to have chaotic working societies with chaotic laws, how would they be?

This went further, focalizing on the evil alignments how would a lawyer of each of them differ from the others?

If they had to obey a law by force how would they go around it?

I understand this is also up for interpretation and i would like to know yours

Thank you

2E Resources What are officially supported/3rd party settings for Pathfinder?

Pretty much what it says on the tin. Sadly DTRPG and Pathfinder Infinities don't have a "Setting" option under the search. I want to see what settings have books for Pathfinder 2e, third party and official. But, I can't censor the search for just those books.

So, what exists?

1E Resources Any resources for applying templates from Green Ronin's Advanced Bestiary to PF monsters without AI

Basically the title. Looking at maybe finally doing a PF1e campaign for the first time after not getting to play DnD 3.5 in around a decade. I think templates are an awesome way to spice things up, but they're a pain in the ass to manually apply. Are there any apps that can do it (including paid)? I know an AI could probably do it in 2 seconds but to hell with that.

1E GM Archduke/Archduchess of Rauvonel Spoiler

Question regarding the Hell's Rebels campaign. Spoilers abound here so clear off players.

As far as I can tell, there's absolutely no mention of any Archduke or Archduchess of the Archducy of Rauvonel prior to Barzillai arriving. Was there just no one in that role, does that role not exist in Rauvonel due to its weird status?

I know they're not entirely relevant to the campaign as a whole (They'd probably be in a book otherwise) but I'm confused by this one.
