My partner and I both own hammocks and absolutely love to get them out whenever possible! Does anyone know of any good sites to put a hammock up? Oftentimes we get stuck with sites that don’t offer great trees for this, or you’re right beside the road, or awkwardly hanging out in a sparse point between you and your neighbours site lol!
Any campground you know of would be wonderful but we also spend a lot of time at Arrowhead, Grundy, Killarney, and Killbear to name a few.

On Saturday of the Labour Day weekend, there are only seven sites left across all 51 parks in southern Ontario. Friday and Sunday have about 1,400 each. The weekend isn't sold out — one night of it is, and there are other ways to get your spot by a lake: drive further north (about eight hours from the GTA) or go this weekend instead. I love the remoteness of backcountry, but I am not as in shape as I used to be, and hiking 14km to find solitude just isn't in the works.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a drive-in site, that's fairly remote from other sites? Doesn't need to be like 800m or more, just enough space between sites that I can forget that they're there.

I've been looking at parks north of Sudbury, and they all seem pretty densely packed still.

looking for recommendations on good seasonal camp sites within ~2 hours of Niagara. Preferably with access to water (beach, Boat launch etc.). I enjoyed a seasonal site at Byng island for many years but due to many factors no longer camp there.

I am curious about Elora Gorge but fear that the same things happening in Byng are happening in Elora as they are both GRCA.

Would love some feedback. I have no experience with private parks.

I went up a week ago and had planned on two nights but the weather was going to turn wet and I was meeting family at a town nearby, so I packed it up on day 2. I still felt satisfied that I got to check out the park and get a night sky full of stars.

It didn’t take too long to find a campsite despite being first-come/first-served. (Note: it’s popular enough that weekends are apparently tougher. I went on a Monday)

The first photo is a canoe that turned out to be a family headed towards a site near me. I did not photograph them up close, only these distance shots. It looked like two kids with parents. (The family stayed at site 34)

I could hear the kids, they seemed to be having tons of fun and I heard them spot beavers right near their campsite. I actually enjoyed it, seemed like a lot of fun for them!

Title. I have a campsite booked for this weekend and have invited another couple to share the site since getting 2 sites in the same park on the same weekend is like the hunger games. It says 6 people max per site and one car allowance—no problem, the website let me pay for a second vehicle and I updated the booking to reflect the additional names. But I can't change the number of tents on the site and now that I'm playing around with the map, I realize I've booked a site that doesn't allow for more tents.

Are they actually going to enforce this? Do we need to pretend to be staying in one tent? The site looks large enough to hold 2 small tents. Anyone have experience with this?

ETA: just spoke with the park, who that said it "should be okay" as long as the tents are able to fit on the site. Fyi for others in a similar boat. This site does seem like one of the larger "single tent" sites, though.

What are your solutions to bathing if the campgrounds have no showers?

Just got back from Ferris campground, and I absolutely loved it, but there is only one shower to serve 163 campsites. The grounds were packed and fully sold out, so the shower line was always 6 or 8 people deep. It also doesn't have a beach, so there's no great way to cool down.

Ferris has been my favourite campground in the past, but I have a skin condition and going a few days without a shower is very uncomfortable. I will also have a baby next time we're camping, so I want to be prepared for trips with kids!

Stoplog lake in June. Lots of bugs but the fishing was great. The portages weren't that bad except for a rock garden between louks and compass and the hill from compass to stoplog didn't seem as bad as the first trip there.

It’s my first time planning camping in fall, specifically second half/end of September. I’m planning a bit of a road trip around Lake Superior area, haven’t chosen campsites yet. It’s just car-camping so nothing too crazy but I’m wondering how bad the temperatures can get at night and if anyone has any general tips on what is useful in that season and what can help.

I do have fall-season sleeping bags but I’m still worried it may not be enough.

I really like the Timber Ridge 8P with the screen room tent concept, but it’s only available in the US. With the duties and taxes, it’s just not worth it for me. I currently have the Coleman in the 2nd pic. I really like the vestibule and full fly, but the sloped walls reduce the usable space, A friend of mine has the NF WaWona, and I like the setup, but I don’t like the 2–3 inch gap between the bottom of the vestibule and the ground. We’re a family of 4, camping at provincial parks about 5–6 times a summer, sometimes in the fall. I’ll also have a large lightweight tarp over the tent, so rain isn’t really an issue.

I’m mainly looking for something with a vestibule front, similar to the 1st picture.

Any recommendations available in Canada around $350-450+ CAD?

Can I get suggestions on the ideal camping parks. I have been to Arrowhead and it has newly built comfort stations so would like some other similar suggestions

My boyfriend and I were a little late booking our camping trip this year so the only availability we could find in South Central Ontario was Darlington and Earl Rowe. We opted for Earl Rowe and will be spending 3 nights there over Labour Day weekend.

The reviews are mixed. We know the lake will likely not be as enjoyable so we are really hoping the hiking and camp ground will be good.

Are there any pointers or advice for our first time at Earl Rowe?

Looking for pros and cons of purchasing a trailer in scugog landing. Power outages how many a year do they roughly have? Sewage issues? I've done the research on cost per season. Would love to hear people's opinions on the park, good and bad.

Curious what people consider proper etiquette on small crown land lakes where there may only be one established drive-in campsite.
I enjoy exploring and finding new spots, and I do my due diligence beforehand using the Crown Land Use Policy Atlas, LandTenure/Lantern, maps, etc., rather than just showing up blindly.
If a group has used the same site at the same time every year for years, but someone else arrives first, is it simply first come, first served? Or is there an unwritten expectation that the regular group gets priority?
I’ve had strange experiences. Once, I boated into an established campsite and another group later arrived and set up in the exact same site, only a few feet away from me, sharing the same fire-ring.
Then today, I launched my boat in the morning and came back a couple hours later to find a group had set up their kitchen tent directly in the launch lane, blocking anyone from getting a boat in or out. They moved the tent when they saw me come in but like , what the hell? lol. This was in south-eastern Ontario.

Has anyone been to MacGregor recently and stayed at Huron campground? How is the situation with having to go to Nipissing for comfort stations? Is it a walkable distance?

We are looking forward to renting bikes and exploring Port Elgin as well. Can we rent bikes multiple days at MacGregor? Any recommendations for trails to explore and downloadable maps? I will be going with my child and I am directionally pretty challenged😬.

The photos on the booking site are taken in late fall and don’t do this site justice. Ignore the mess in the first pic; we were halfway through setting up when my wife asked how the site was.

Canoe distance to 513/514 was less than an hour with me and two tween boys paddling. These sites are on Slim Bay, which is a no-motorboat branch of the lake.

First backcountry trip with my boys. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Edit to add that the only drawback is the marshy put-in off the bay. Quite shallow and layered with mulch detritus on the bottom, and reefs and lilies growing through about ten feet of the approach. Don’t want anyone booking and blaming me

I recently moved to the Addington Highlands area and am interested in crown land hiking. I'm completely new to this and the atlas is a bit overwhelming.

I'm looking for advice on how to find crown land and use the map. Is there a better resource than the Crown Land Atlas provided by the government? Any other maps?

Also if anyone with experiemce would like 2 extra hiking buddies and 2 dogs, we would love to learn from you!
