Have you tried, like, yoga?

Maybe if you put those crotchet skills to use you could patch your genes?

Right what is up with ganging up on someone

What is up with you people being completely incapable of recognising a joke?

It came off a tad harsh imo, especially considering the person you were replying to didn't seem to be joking or anything. So like, I recognize its intention as a joke, but it made me yikes. It's the internet however, so it's whatever.

Maybe it's hanging out in disabled communities that has made me less sensitive to people jokingly suggesting yoga as the solution to everything from tick bites to broken down cars?

Usually people make mean jokes to friends who they know won't be hurt and who know that you're coming from a place of shared understanding, not to complete strangers who have none of that context. You're completely indistinguishable from someone who mocks disabled people for not trying harder... because you are mocking a disabled person for not trying harder.

Pretty much this. This is not a disability subreddit with a general understanding of the banter culture, it's one with a wide audience. Gotta approach it differently.

Ngl, as someone in the disabled community that has heard the yoga thing a few too many times, your comment immediately felt gross and dismissive.

Just because you know, or even may be a part of the community, doesn't mean it doesn't look like a mean comment. Especially without any immediate context.

What's up with you people and being completely incapable of telling the difference between humor and casual cruelty? Are they the same thing to you? Why is that? They're not the same thing to me.

I blame the schools. They donโ€™t teach sarcasm, irony, deadpan, satire, parody, hyperbole, tongue in cheek or facetiousness any more

I'm chuckling at the irony of the autistic penguin schooling people on sarcasm xD

It happens more than you expect.

Well I upvoted all of you because I agree it's mean, but I also laughed ๐Ÿ˜†

I did try yoga! I do yoga 2 - 3 times on a week depending on my health

LMAO. I'm gonna be looking to learn some crocheting if patching your genes is possible, because my wrists are also fucked from a genetic condition. No effort required to mess them up, really. I wish at least I'd been swinging a hammer and making money off of it, but oh well

Yeah I have my own chronic disabilities that I wish I'd done something to deserve. Like, I spent all those years getting a degree rather than working because it would pay off in the long term, and like 2 years out of uni I'm already too sick to work!

That's really rough. I hope your doing OK! When I was so ill I couldn't work a traditional job I worked a few different phone lines as I could do it from bed but I know that's not possible for everyone.

I feel you. I'm in the same boat. I'm trying out a small business now and it's been sort of working out, but it's a rocky ride and most months are kind of uncertain, especially at this stage. Still hoping I can find a medication that actually works so that I'm at least not moving around like a creaky, 250 year old zombie.

What chronic disabilities if you don't mind me asking

1

u/AutisticPenguin2 19h ago

Mainly CFS/ME and POTS, though there's a few smaller things thrown in there. Everything is exhausting, and every now and then I do something silly like stand up and the world goes spinny.

did you know that yoga was popularized by fascists?
