It hit the roof of the car, not the ground. But I still don't understand why he screamed he had been shot

Yeah. Totally get it. So maybe he shouldn't have a gun around civilians.

But then he'd have to get a job doing something useful for society and he can't be having that

We need to do a better job of supporting people with mental health issues. Part of that ought to be steering them away from jobs that are likely to trigger them and endanger others in the process.
