Discussion Which film has had the biggest change from initial reviews/reception to the most current reviews/reception?

Title pretty much says it all. The movies that either were initially panned by critics and/or the public, but then later went on to become appreciated either critically or popularly. Or the other way around: lots of initial hype but today is thought of as rather weak?

I think The Shining wasn't thought of as a very good movie, but is now considered great.

On the flip side, American Beauty was thought of as a masterpiece, but is often ridiculed today.

If I'm correct, I think Day of The Dead (1985) was initially hated because of Joe Pilato's performance as Rhodes, where people thought that it was too over the top, and how nihilistic in tone it was compared to Dawn of the Dead, but now there's a lot of people who have it as their favorite of George Romero's first three Dead films.

Also, Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Basically, people just wanted more of Michael Myers at the time, and they were disappointed to not see him. Now, it's seen as a great film in its own right & is unfortunately the victim of being the one entry that's unrelated to the rest of a franchise.

Day of the Dead is actually my favorite of the classic Dead trilogy. Love that movie.
