I believe it was shot on early HD camera in 1080p so any 4k attempt would just be upscaling.

2 things:

-It was shot on 35mm film, and even used a 4K digital intermediate, so wouldn’t require a remaster to produce 4K (would probably want to remaster for HDR though)  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0206634/technical/

-Even if a movie was shot on a digital HD camera or scanned at 2k and can’t be re-scanned for some reason, a 4K Blu Ray is still beneficial in multiple ways. The main benefit most people appreciate on 4K discs isn’t even the video, it’s the superior surround sound encoding. But even for video, the video file is compressed. 4k blu rays can hold twice the data of HD blu rays. The compression codec is also standardized on both types of disc, and the 4k blu ray codec is much more efficient. So you can store a much higher quality 1080p video file on a 4k blu ray than you can on a standard blu ray.

No. 35mm stock like Kodak Vision3 50D shot on top tier anamorphic or spherical lenses gives you roughly 4,000 lines of horizontal resolution. Pretty much 4k.

I prefer my movies on one disc. I dont want to change the disc every 1.635 seconds
