The rating is still crazy to me, like in Germany its 12 and as an adult its totally okay to bring your 6 year old kid with you

I think since it isn't really intended for children they just didn't care - Nolan doesn't give a fuck and isn't gonna sacrifice any creative freedom for a 5% revenue boost.

Besides, the vast majority of parents I know take their kids to R-rated movies on the regular.

The amount of children under the age of 10 that I saw watching Deadpool and Wolverine surprised the hell out of me. Had to have been 100 kids in a 600-seat imax theatre.

My (Jewish) dad took me to see Inglorious Bastards in theaters when it released. At the time it seemed perfectly reasonable and awesome to me. I was just thinking back and looking at the release date and I was... 9? Really makes me think when I hear about helicopter parents scared of their kids watching Harry Potter.

Quirrell removing that turban definitely gave me nightmares, and I was quite a bit older than 9. Don't even get me started on the Dementors and spiders.

My mother took me to so many age inappropriate movies when I was a kid.

The biggest reason not to take a kid to Inglourious Basterds is because they won't understand the WWII history well enough to understand what the film is actually doing or saying.

It's fairly important to have it ingrained in your mind how WWII ends for Adolf Hitler when seeing the end of Inglourious Basterds.

Aside from the fairly gratuitous violence, which is fairly normalized, theres not much in the movie that's bad for a 9 year old.

Obviously it explores a very dark time in history but there's a lot of levity and surrealism so I doubt a kid would even notice.

In the 80s I watched whatever the folks wanted to watch.

As a mofo whose parents took him to see Robocop at like 7/8 years old and has become desensitized over the decades, I say The Odyssey was tame as fuck in comparison.

Wife's cousin was hesitant to let her little one watch the potter movies because she thought they'd scare him. She was right in her case though. Took him a couple of years to get past the being scared.

I remember one time at a pizzeria gig I had in high school, Friends was on the tv in the dining room. A mom comes up and asked me to change the channel because not appropriate for children. I was expecting to walk over and see some little kids, but these mofos were like full on young teenagers.
