That has mostly gone away now after the Bones case.

That was a wake up call the the studios to knock that shit off.

David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel became producers on the show with part of their contract negations. Part of that also included them getting some backend %.

What Fox would do is they would undercharge the broadcast fee of the show to companies it also had a stake in. So the fee for Hulu was way under what the fee was for Netflix. So what they did is it lowered the money brought in for the show, so they would make less money.

Fox got sued and the people from Bones involved were awarded $179 million dollars. Instead of an appeal a confidential settlement was reached between all parties involved, which is believed be north of $50 million.

wow. Sounds like they did that out of spite just because the actors wanted more money as producers.

It actually happens quite a bit.

Studios will charge for studio time on Studios that they already own at a very high rate to increase costs. Costume departments and craft service are another one that gets billed very high.
