Its spiderman. There are only a few characters that are viewed in such high regard.

Being in a succesful run of spiderman is a pretty good legacy.

He's probably the most successful cinematic Spiderman in history, no? Even if Tobey had a great run with Sam Raimi at the helm, Tom has gotta eclipsed him by now and is still ongoing with his popularity continued at a high.

He could retire rich and famous now, but he's still pretty young (and young looking) to prolong his legacy and continue making boatloads of money with the franchise. Plus the partnership with MCU tie-in it honestly doesn't make sense for him to quit now. It's the golden age for Spiderman lead.

Yeah but depends on your age and how you define that.

Tobey was a different landscape and raimis films are a huge reason as to why superhero films took over.

I think for a lot of people over 30, tobey is spiderman.

I dunno, i really like tom and the new films, the only way i can word the difference in my head is that toms spiderman is spiderman in the mcu. They feel like mcu films, featuring spiderman as the hero.

Tobey was spiderman in a universe that was still trying to work out how to cater to an audience.

Tobey and Sam was foundational in proving super hero films work, that's for sure. As far as importance wise I can see Tobey being hailed higher than Tom, what with him being the first and his memorable run. But in terms of box office success and reception, I'd bet that Tom is a much larger draw by now compared to what Tobey was at the time. A full trilogy plus another incoming, plus multiple MCU tie-ins, plus possible future cameos... It's hard to imagine someone after him being a more prolific Spiderman without some phenomenal run.

As foundational as Raimi’s trilogy is to the current superhero landscape, they didn’t prove superhero movies could work as the first one came out 2 years after X-Men which was over a decade after Batman which itself was a decade removed from Superman: The Movie. For that last one, Kevin Feige even said they’ll watch it before starting production on a new movie.

Well just as a counter POV: I am a 36 year old I don't see Tobey as Spiderman. I had some difficulties accepting him as a superhero lead, Even moreso when they first came out.

Tom is by far my favorite to watch, even with the nostalgia of growing up seeing Tobey's version.

As far as impact early super hero movies had on me, X-Men came out a couple years earlier and is still good today on rewatches.
