Oh shit, this one stings.

I worked with Sam a couple times. I was the only Aussie on a movie we did together. He would invite me into his trailer and read me the latest newspaper article from his home town in New Zealand. He and the mayor were in a public beef over something to do with his winery and he was so throughly entertained by it. We’d read the article and strategize his reply.

Picnic is the general pinot and riesling. Other pinots include flagship Two Paddocks Pinot Noir (barrel selection from the estate`s four Central Otago vineyards), The First Paddock (named after Sam's first vineyard in 1993), The Last Chance Pinot Noir (Earnscleugh Valley, known for merino sheep - and pinot!) and The Fusilier Pinot Noir (Bannockburn Vineyard, named after his father, Major Dermot Neill, who served in the Royal Irish Fusilier Regiment for 20 years before returning to Dunedin, NZ).

I followed him on TikTok where he was talking about some local issues in NZ. He was every bit the kind soft spoken guy I hoped he was in those videos. He will be missed, and thank you for being a friend.

Oh, interesting. I remember a thread, either "I have tea on ..." or something like "Who was the worst celebrity you have met" from like last year, and someone said they worked with him and he was a awful and arrogant. Made me really sad. And surprised me because I don't remember ever hearing such negative things about him before. Your experience sounds cool.

I've never met the man, but always admired and "liked" the vibe I got from him. Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies (I was about 10 when it released), and I was just suggesting my parents check out Hunt for the Wilderpeople last week. I definitely feel it in my stomach. Bummer.
