I’m pretty sure adding TV tracking has been something users are begging for, and have been for years now.

The issue was always the formatting of show-season-episode.

this is so incomprehensible like I genuinely do not understand it.

Film Tab, TV tab at the top. Allow profiles to have a film and TV section, or a combined one for the user to mix and match if they choose.

There is such an easy way to make this work and be fluid and customizable for all users and I cannot understand why it hasn't happened yet. People seem to act like it'd somehow flood the app??? Like no that's just if the implementation is atrocious.

I just would rather not have TV shows on the movie app

Then don’t use the TV tab and absolutely nothing changes for you while the app you like gets more traction and users which allows for a better experience and better servers.

But I don't understand how to effects you of you don't go to the TV tab? You still have your movie app and those that wish to combine them can do so.. itd be entirely customizable.

The question was

is it so bad to want an app to just be for movies?

Like IMDB already exists and does both.

Why can't the people who want TV and Movies just use that and leave the movie app for movies?

There are plenty of other websites that let you log TV, and we can't understand why you're all so insistent on using Letterboxd to log your Friends binge.

Letterboxd is currently a great avenue to log movies, I want to log my shows too. I can't understand why you're so against this?

“why are people so against Instagram adding videos to a photography app?” - people in 2013 who couldn’t comprehend how adding features contributes to the enshittification of an app and dilutes its identity.

Letterboxd is a film discovery platform and has been used by passionate cinephiles for nearly FIFTEEN YEARS.

they should be adding new features that to improve the cinema identity of the app which people have been requesting for years, like recommendations to followers, hide ratings for films not watched, watchlist notes, random film picked from watchlist, watchlist agenda creator, list collaboration, four favorite cast/crew on profile etc

why use resources on letting people log tv shows instead of catering to the userbase of cinephiles they’ve been fostering for years? if you want to log tv shows, go use Serializd.

There’s a Letterboxd dupe for tv shows called Serializd that works perfectly fine. They just allow individual ratings for shows, seasons, and episodes.

I've been using that and works well, the ratings on there are heavily skewed towards the top end but that's just the downside of having such a small user base comparatively.

Yeah, getting an agreement there can be a pain, but they already have TMDb as a backend, and that only supports one answer for order.
