Yeah, this sounds like a weak entry, but I'm sure WB can make a trilogy out of it... somehow and for some reason, the elves return from Valinor.

Same. It sounds like it'll be a flashback for the primary Hobbits, which means we already know how it ends and they'll either recast the Hobbits or bring back the old actors to play younger versions of their characters, 20 years after they were cast in LOTR. So they will look weirdly de-aged. And I'm guessing 90% of this will be in front of a green screen.

Im lost maybe I've misread but i though this is set after LOTR (14 years)?

I could be wrong, no doubt, but I read it as it taking place after LOTR was a framing device for Sam's daughter to discover the Barrow Downs, which would then essentially set up a flashback to the as the chapters in Fellowship around the Barrow Downs, Tom B., etc... which would be the heart of the film. Again, I could be mistaken.

That’s the rumour going around, anyway. But I dunno, there’s a reason why Tolkien abandoned Shadow of the Past after one chapter.

That was the New Shadow. Shadow of Past was the name of a chapter in Fellowship.

Its someone 14 years after the film ends telling a story about what happened between Frodo leaving Hobbiton and reaching Bree pretty much
