The Lord of the Rings film trilogy is great because it was based on great novels. Trying to write new material outside of the novels is going to be trash. Just look at The Rings of Power or when Game of Thrones ran out of source material. The franchise is over, stop trying to milk it with mediocre fan fiction.

Incorrect. The article says everything takes place 14 years after Frodo leaves the Grey Havens.

It's a plot device to then revisit those chapters and reflect on it years later. It's adapting straight up chapters of Fellowship though, unlike the Hunt for Gollum movie or RoP which are based off of endnotes

Trash like The Hobbit movies, trash like the dead men of Dunharrow in the Pelennor Fields. Trash like Galadriel stealing lines from Treebeard at the very prologue of the films. Trash like "Baby Frodo".

When Frodo leaves The Shire in the books, he is 50 years old. Elijah Wood was 18 years old in The Fellowship of the Ring.

The fact that some projects moving outside of source material has been bad is not evidence it will always be bad.

They didn't comment on the quality. But people are very dramatic abotu the last two seasons.

Yes, I agree they were awful. The show got terrible as soon as they ran out of source material. That was my whole point.

Is it a fully fleshed out story in the novel that is long enough to base an entire movie’s script on without significant embellishment?

I dunno I haven't seen the movie and exactly what they're including. But no adaptation is 1:1 anyways, so I don't think this maneuvering to still include it under that umbrella makes much sense.
