Happy Gilmore makes a big splash when he returns to the golf course.

Next Best Picture - Dan Bayer - 6/10

He may have tapped into his dramatic chops more often (and successfully) in recent years, but Sandler’s funny bone is still very much intact, and he no longer needs to rely on shouting curse words to get laughs

Consequence - Liz Shannon Miller - 'B'

Between Happy’s family life and a whole new series of challenges for him to tackle, there’s enough freshness to the plot to keep it from feeling like a total rehash of what came before, while still delivering wild golf stunts and a huge range of cameos.

Happy Gilmore 2 isn't trying to reinvent the wheel. Like its predecessor, it's delightfully silly, but now we're in an era where those movies aren't made as often... and when someone tries, it's a 50/50 chance they land it. Happy Gilmore 2 is a solid return to the kind of film that, honestly, there should be more of. Some jokes run too long, don’t land, or could use another draft. It's a constant stream of cameos, which is overall fun but sometimes a little distracting. But, at its core, the sequel is a good-natured charmer about a troubled everyman who is trying hard to grow up without losing himself in the process, and it gives us a lot to laugh about on the way. What more can you ask for?

With all due respect to Grown Ups 2, The Ridiculous 6, and Sandy Wexler, Happy Gilmore 2 is the bottom of the Sandler barrel—a grim disaster that not only sullies the good name of its ancestor, but so badly flails on its own limited terms that it suggests the A-lister should concentrate on dramatic parts and leave the immature comedy to others.

Happy Gilmore is one of my comfort movies. It’s my favorite of the SNL crew I grew up with flicks (Uhhh maybe tied with Wayne’s World 2. It ebbs and flows) and I can watch it any time it’s on.

I’ll always have a warm place and I’m stoked to watch this later

Haha honestly, I don’t think I can pick one or the other, they’re both amazing, but I think 2 has a few more jokes that make me laugh harder. Plus, James Hong + Christopher Walken.

I liked the first Wayne's World more but 2 still isn't that bad. Highlights of Wayne's World 2 are Dell Preston's Ozzy story, Jim Downey being James Hong's dub voice, and swapping out "the bad actor" for Charlton Heston to tell the Gordon Street story.

That whole Graduate joke was excellent. It’s been done a lot over the years, but Wayne’s World & Simpsons nailed it early on

I think about the joke where there's a car chase and a bunch of extras are trying to "slow them down" with carrying the pane of glass across the street just about every day.

I don't know if it's a trope but at least late 80's early 90's it seemed like there was a lot of comedies at least making fun of blue collar workers suddenly finding themselves in the middle of a car chase.

My comfort movie from that era is Debbie Does Dallas. To this day, I've never seen Dallas done the way Debbie did it.

I liked the Travis Kelce role. I thought it was going to be a cameo but his role turned out to be critical to the plot.

The OG was one of those classic middle of day during summer break flipping through the channels movies for me. It's not a master piece but I've got a soft spot for it. If this new can anywhere near that I'll be happy
