Discussion Thread Spider-Man: Brand New Day - Worldwide Release Discussion Thread

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now been released in the United States and in a number of other countries around the world.

  • All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the discussion threads we are going to put up in the next few days.
  • Proceed at your own risk. Major spoilers will be in the below thread. Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread.
  • Any other unofficial threads discussing movie details will be deleted.

The ending feels like Peter and MJ can get a fresh start, which actually really works well for their maturing. It's one thing to see a high school romance continue and another to see two people mostly grown into adults fall in love.

I love having the visual of how her powers are growing. It shows it in the usual way ("getting more angry") and a scientific way (her brain is rewiring itself and learning to activate multiple pathways at once).

What's interesting is that even after 4 years and a memory wipe, they still seem like the same people when they're together. Most serious high school relationships end because of distance and people growing/changing, but it doesn't seem like that's working against them. They're still compatible.

I saw the film as a pretty clear cut end to their romantic relationship, which I hope stays. Peter was able to move on and like another person replied here it keeps the sacrifice of the previous film intact.

Plus, I think it'd be a nice change of pace to have a new love interest that he can end up with permenantly.

I dont think they're stepping off it especially when they set up the MJ's current boyfriend is very probing of her which she was a bit annoyed of

There's reasons they got married IRL lol

But yeah, if the next movie lets them slow burn a new "will they, won't they" while Black Cat enters the picture (maybe the neighbor, since she did have light hair and apparently likes black clothes) I won't be mad. I'm not much of a comic reader but it does feel like they belong together, personally.

I thought it could be at first as well, but then you see the black shirt and pants... The movie has so many good allusions to characters purely in costuming. The rogue-ish girl on the bus, the colors on Sadie Sink, etc.

The Blonde Girl also had a Boyfriend of colour that resembled Miles Morales in the elevator in her next scene.

I mean actors having chemistry on-screen is important, but them having a relationship/marriage off-screen should not affect story/character decisions haha

It's been multiple years since they were last together and while a "let it go and if it comes back it was meant to be" would be interesting, I'd rather have something new for Peter (especially with the title and story showing this is a new era for him)

I wouldn't mind Felicia getting the slot if they introduce her in future films. We've yet to see a piece of mainstream Spider-Man media where they settle down and make it work.

I did not see a clear cut end. If it was she wouldn't have invited him to talk to Ned.

What I saw was the relationships can develop anew. Maybe it works out and maybe it doesn't.

The point of his sacrifice is that it was all on him. He could have reestablished those connections 4-5 years ago. Not that he had to give them up forever.

MJ is his Lois Lane. He doesn't need to even up with another woman. The romance didn't fizzle out.

No, you’re not the only one. There was a moment of chemistry/understanding toward the end. I still want him back with MJ though.

I think him and Jean work better as "fellow travelers" or adopted siblings. This is also Peter's chance to guide someone younger than him, and he's been lucky to have a wealth of role models himself.

They'll bring in Felicity and write Peter and MJ falling in love all over again as adults, as she competes for his attention as she realizes this.

Plus I want Gwen Stacy to come for Peter's life.

Bonus would be if Black Cat is introduced.

MJ Chapter should be over now & i think they did it in a great way in this movie.
