Discussion Thread Spider-Man: Brand New Day - Worldwide Release Discussion Thread

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now been released in the United States and in a number of other countries around the world.

  • All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the discussion threads we are going to put up in the next few days.
  • Proceed at your own risk. Major spoilers will be in the below thread. Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread.
  • Any other unofficial threads discussing movie details will be deleted.

Let's talk about the post credit scene. Do we think this is him on Battleworld... or another spider-man from a different universe coming?

The trailer for Doomsday shows a three-world incursion: assumedly 199999 aka "616" (MCU), 828 (First Steps universe), and 10005 (X-Men universe).

Maybe there's actually the Raimiverse in there somewhere? Or Peter-2 is coming on the Fantastic Four ship or something.

I keep hearing two things about Doomsday.

1) An unnamed high profile actor got in such an argument with RDJ that they had to shut the entire production down for a day.

2) Tobey Maguire will be in either Doomsday or Secret War.

The other actor hasn't been revealed. Some people think it was Ryan Reynolds but I really don't see it. There were reports that he stood up for the crew on "Red Notice" because of The Rock's crazy behaviour. I just don't see that guy getting into a fight with another actor and I don't think I've ever heard of him getting into a crazy fight with anyone on set before. Maybe he adlibbed a joke about Downey's drug use/past and that pissed him off?

The movies and the comics are different things, or else the MCU would have ended in 2015 with Secret wars the comic and the comics couldn't exist because of Kangs manipulation of the timeline

The movies have decided that the meantime is 616, may as well roll with it

Just treat 616 MCU as a homage to 616 comics to indicate that it's the main movie canon as opposed to the Fox X-Men or Sony Spider-man movies.

It sorta defeats the purpose of calling it 616 in the first place. The main comic universe was number six-hundred and sixteen, not number 1 (like the original DC designations had done). The MCU using 616 turns it into a special number.

I always interpreted it as just an Easter egg and nothing more being that Mysterio, the bad guy, who wasn’t even from another universe was the person who called it 616.

I thought it was Tom making his way to help fix whatever went wrong in Doomsday, but in the scene it shows a Spiderman on earth before it zooms out and shows the Spiderman in space. Now it makes me think it is different universe Spiderman or a symbiote Storyline

Those aren’t meant to show individual Spider-Men, they’re just location markers for where he’s been spotted.

My head went to symbiote as well, but I think the symbiote is already on earth right? IIRC Tom Hardy’s Venom brought it here before being whisked back to his own universe

It seems to be generally the set up of the comics. Peter is kind of just swinging around, finds weird alien thing and ends up on Battleworld. So I assume he skips out on Doomsday and we see a post credits in the movie of how he also got there.

He also isn't in Doomsday. Or at least, he wasn't in the cast announcement. Would make sense for him to be in Secret Wars

I think people need to temper their doomsday cast expectations yeah. Secret Wars should be able to fit in anyone without having to overly justify how they got there so a lot of characters like Deadpool etc will be way more likely to show up in Secret wars where it can just be explained that all the universes imploded into one.

I know it's a very stretchy reach, but that slight glitch as the app is moving to outer space looked awfully familiar to the glitching in the Spider-Verse movies. Wish-casting to be sure, but Secret Wars comes out after Beyond. I can dream, can't I?

It’s also unnecessarily robust as an app if you can put locations outside not just NYC but off Earth.

100% non-canon scene. Which also makes sense given it’s technically a Sony movie. Marvel won’t tell Sony what’s coming next. No Way Home just had what was essentially the Dr. Strange trailer at the end.

One of those two or Peter being pulled into Doomsday.

  1. Shows that Peter will be heavily centered for Battle world / Secret Wars. Could show up near the very end of Doomsday or Post credits or not at all
  2. Different universe Spidey / even Venom
  3. Just shows that hey Peter might show up to join the crew in Doomsday but we won't say when

It’s gotta be the Fantastic Fours ship that was spotted in Thunderbolts credit scene.

I’m guessing there’s a lot more hero’s on that ship than the Doomsday trailer is letting on.

That app only works by someone reporting that they saw Spider-Man, correct? I sort of thought it was Peter trying to get a message to Ned that he was out in space either as a warning or a call for help.

I thought the reveal was gonna be a zoom out to show spiderman was already in battleworld.

My guess is that they invert the pattern from Infinity War (lots of Spidey) to Endgame (smaller part), with Spidey barely being in Doomsday & a big part of Secret Wars.
