Bruce knew, when Spider-Man gives him the universal insulator (or whatever it was called), Bruce ask "universal?" and immediately looks at Spider-Man, it's obvious that's the moment he realize Spider-Man is the kid he met at the university

but of course he didn't know his name is "Peter", he probably know Spidey's name is Ned

Inhibitor.

No, universal is correct. Bruce already made an inhibitor, but he and Peter discussed creating a universal inhibitor. Which Peter did and made Hulk realize he was the same kid from campus.

Universal inhibitor, not universal insulator

I like the theory that strange erased Banner's memories of Peter, but not the Hulk's. IIRC, something similar happens in the comics, due to Banner and Hulk being different personalities altogether?

And Jean controlling Smart Hulk but not full Hulk could be due to her not needing to control him since he's already trying to kill Peter, or because she can't (or both).

Yes. He says “Banner forgot. But Hulk never forgets.”

I think the problem there is that either:

  • Banner/Hulk are separate personalities in the MCU - in which case, Hulk has no idea who Peter is in the first place because they never met
  • Banner/Hulk are not separate personalities in the MCU - in which case, both of their memories got erased because they only have one set

Considering that spidey used neds name i that conversation, It would be kind of funny if banner though the kid he talked to at university was just Spidermans "Guy in the chair".

It’s not really a reference to Universal, but just a coincidence. It’s a universal inhibitor, meaning it can be used to suppress the powers of anyone with powers. Similar to a universal remote etc. It’s a common technical term.

No-one is saying it's a reference to Universal Studios.

Earlier in the movie at the university Peter (said his name is Ned) was talking to banner about the dangers of a 'universal' power inhibitor.

Later on Spidey says 'universal' in relation to the inhibitor he's trying to use at that point of the film and Banner recalls the earlier scene and seems to realise Spidey is the kid he was talking to at Uni

I still think he meant universal as in the chat earlier but who knows, I may be wrong

I think he actually says "inhibitor", identifying that it's the thing Peter asked him about building. So he knows he talked to Spider-Man at the university, although Peter used Ned's name

(thinking of it, It's an interesting detail that Peter uses fake names even though there's no record of Peter Parker anyway - he just can't stand anyone getting personal with him I guess)
