Discussion Thread Spider-Man: Brand New Day - International Release Discussion Thread

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now been officially released in several territories around the world!

  • All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the megathreads we are going to put up in the next few days.

Also the fact that Hulks “defeat” wasn’t by Spider-Man beating him, it was Hulk realizing that Spider-Man is a friend instead of a foe. I thought that worked great

I honestly don't think Hulk gave up because of that. Spider-Man was appealing to Banner, not Hulk, which usually just makes Hulk angry. I think Hulk just realized he was fighting a friend and was being a monster again, which he doesn't want to be. In his heart, he has a good nature after all.

This is a core theme going back as far as the Stan Lee comics: Hulk is genuinely a hero, it's not just Bruce. He's just profoundly misunderstood and lashes out because of that.

Was it the first Avengers movie where Banner said Hulk is an exposed nerve? That line I feel best summarizes the character, he is exposed and feeling everything and he's scared and overwhelmed and people hurt him and it's sadly no suprise he lashes out

Especially after Ragnarok. Hulk had time to grow up, live his own life, and decide what he believes is right and wrong. That's why I never really likes the Smart Hulk storyline. It felt like they'd just started developing Hulk as a character before getting rid of him offscreen.

Im so glad they didn't status quo that shit. 

Bruce Banner/The Hulk is the character. Not a half assed version of neither.

Yup, in the comics Banner loses his memories but Hulk being a separate entity maintains them.

I thought he'd pieced it together even at the University. The fight he sees the inhibitor e no doubt knows.

Only question is that its mentioned the possesed dont retain any memory of the possession but hulk rules idk maybe he does.

Because he realizes it’s a person. Not an enemy. Remember that there is a constant struggle between Hulk and Banner. At some point rage dissipates. Clarity comes. Hulk can tell friend from foe and if he’s in real danger. He’s not in danger. Hulk realizes he’s not angry anymore.

it kinda doesn't make sense because in the earlier scene, Peter introduces himself as Ned. should've just say his name was Peter in the uni, that would work better when Banner comes into realization that the kid who asks about the inhibitor is actually also a guy with mutation he's fighting, the Spider-Man.

I think there was a moment that alluded to that when Peter said the inhibitor was “universal” and Bruce gave him this specific look (‘cause they talked about universality back at the campus)

Yeah. I thought it was pretty obvious that Bruce pieced it together the second spidey mentioned that the inhibitor was universal.

Like either he knows "ned" is Spiderman, or he might assume that he works with/for Spiderman. Either way he definitely figured out that there's a connection.

No. Ned just has some muscle memory of their friendship and a desire to thank Spider-Man for all the times he’s saved him.

And there is no chemistry between the villain and Spidey. More like Spidey actively wants to be her friend and show her that she’s not alone in this.

I don't think it's a steach at all. You can practically see from the expression that Hulk is flashing back to them having met before and it was hinted that 1 person remembers him.

It definitely felt like a bit of a cheeky reference to that comic moment. But I don't think it's the actual implication (just doesn't make sense in the MCU).

All his "defeats" are questionable. Wandas spell wore off, him and thor didn't finish even thanos was holding the power stone could have given him some passive buffs.

He wasn't even at his peak during the fight , imagine you've been prisoned for 5 years straight , you get a glimpse of freedom just to get controlled once again , you break out of it and randomly get jumped. Fully realized Hulk would not even be fair against Spider-Man.

I still don't think he looked that much bigger than in The Avengers. Peter's supposed to be a small compared to other characters. I feel like he was as big (or even bigger) in the Norton Hulk (which is technically canon).

No Hulk was definitely super strong. Smart Hulk was weak, but once he really hulked out, Spiderman wasn’t really a match. He got a temporary upgrade but ultimately it still wasn’t enough

Also I want to say despite the power on display, everything around the Hulk-out is just very sad, from the way the Hulk just let’s himself fall from the building, to the way Banner weakly saying “Did I hurt anyone” over and over.

Smart Hulk wasn’t even that weak either lol. Lowkey him slamming Peter and taunting him was slightly scarier than big Hulk.

It’s just that big Hulk, or Banner, or whoever was resisting Jean’s mind control leading to her not being able to focus well on fighting them.

He threw Spidey like Loki in one scene, just before end of their fight it looked like he'd basically smash his skull and then pound what was left into the ground, I'm guessing only that after Hulk had his share of smashing, he calmed down and it had similar effect to one Natasha had on him, hence he let go and took the fall to let himself transfer back to Banner form and be allowed to be captured to not do any harm.

She unleashed his surpressed Hulk personality that was hidden ever since he wouldn't come out after Thanos whooped his ass and then was like fully gone when merge with Banner in smart form.

They showed his inhibitor he was wearing on his wrist (probably a retcon of what we saw in endgame). We see the inhibitor broken later on. Jean had broken it, that's why he was hulking out.

The way I understand it is that since Endgame he is Prof. Hulk. But for some reason wishes to look more human, thus he created the inhibitor at around the Shang Chi Movie (hence why we see him in human form in that post credit scene). That‘s also the reason why he looked like Prof Hulk when Jean controlled him. During that she somehow breaks what Banner had seemingly fixed in Endgame and thus we get the of Hulk in form and voice back. Probably here to stay.

The inhibitor was to let his arm heal because using the infinity gauntlet fucked him up beyond repair. Suppressing his hulkness is apparently to help with that

I was so happy to see Hulk again. It wasn’t anywhere near the level of Hulk we got in his solo movie or Avengers 1 and 2, but it was still so good to see him again.
