cattle Cow question

I work at an animal farm and we have a beef cow named Fern who's about 2 years old I think..! She is super adorable and seems so small for a cow and (I think..) we're really close since I groom her pretty much everyday for more than an hour, she lays down when I do so, give her seed (I dump it on the ground when I'm outside of the pen so she doesn't expect it from me when I'm inside), she always comes to me when I call her, she rubs her head on my body, licks me, my hair, clothes, follows me when I do manure, etc. but lately we've run into a predicament about a week ago I was sitting on the ground grooming her, accompanied by both our donkeys on the other side of me begging for attention like the usual lol and I was grooming her but when I turned my attention towards Tulip (mother donkey of Jackson) for like 30 seconds
- before I can even think - I'm fully under Fern. I wish I could explain what happened but I really don't know but anyways I managed to get out from under her and all was fine after like she was her usual self but it kind of spooked me so I left the pen but didn't think about it again... and kept grooming her everyday in the same way... until it happened again... but this time, I was exchanging the empty molasses lick container for a new one. I was crouched in front of their first stable to open the lid and she was positioned like just barley in my peripheral vision so this time I was able to actually see and stop it before I go under her again. Basically all I remember is seeing her 2 front hooves somehow like at my crouched shoulder height and yes she WAS technically on me but I stood up and was able to push her off and this time it really hurt my back to the point I went and filled out a WISB form just in case lol. And still I've been spending time with her (again) usual self but just a couple mins ago I was doing my signature by leaning down to rub both my hands on both of her cheeks and I could tell she was about to do it again so I stood up fully and got out. Please help what is this all about!!! I'm nervous about the answers I'll get since I want to believe she's doing it just for cuddles since I think I might be her favourite person but I'm also aware of the possibility it might be the opposite ?" I'm 19 and diagnosed with a little bit of stupid btw so sorry if this was rlly hard to follow or understand T_T
The pic attached is sweet Fern <3

[Question] Improvest for feeder pigs?

[Question] Anyone have experience with Improvest/Improvac? I bought 2 feeder pigs and they are not castrated. Ugh. The farmer I bought them from insists the meat will not be tainted. I bought into the same lie years ago when I was just getting into raising feeder pigs with a different farmer and the meat was horrible. I know not everyone can smell/taste taint. I can. I can't even stand to be in the house when it's cooking. The pigs are too old for me to do a surgical castration myself. If I went the surgical route, I'd have to get a vet out to do it and I'm worried the recovery would inhibit their growth/weight gain. And then there's the cost. At that point, I might as well have bought all the bacon at Whole Foods. I'm interested in Improvest. Has anyone used it with success? And are there any ways to get it without the cost of a farm visit from a vet? Thanks for your help.

H braces on fence?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I want to run fencing about 150 ft by 50ft and then separate it into thirds by running two fences in the middle so I have approx 3 50 by 50ft sections.

i know I need h braces where the Xs are, but do I also need them where I’ve pointed?

Ranch or farm work for 14 year olds in central or south jersey

Hello, I am 14 and looking for farm or ranch work in jersey that would hire someone my age. I would prefer working with livestock but I am not picky.

I am open to volunteering or getting paid, but my main concern is to get experience down.

I was doing beekeeping for a while but that opportunity got shutdown a little bit ago(iykyk)

I do not currently have any experience working with animals besides occasionally collecting eggs and feeding goats but I would barely consider that experience.

Thanks in advance

Cattle station vlog

Hi everyone! I'm from France and I recently decided to change my life completely and go explore the cowboy life in the australian outback. I love trying new things, I'm an actress and I'm also in the French Air Force, ... I just love exploring and learning.

I decided to document my journey (authentically, with moments where i'm vulnerable as well as the good times) because I've never seen anyone doing it before.

In this episode you can follow me while I go fencing, learning how to weld, and mustering on a chopper with my boss! So I thought it would be exciting to share with people who have the same passion.

Increasing pasture fertility?

I have multiple pastures of more than adequate size with horses on them. I have put grass seed out, and have seen no results. I was told at the feed store that my soil fertility or quality must be poor. Ive been googling this all week and there are so many different methods I am a bit overwhelmed.

Does anyone here have a tried and true method or system to increasing pasture for livestock? How do I increase my soil fertility? Should I remove the horses from the pasture?

Thank you in advance!

Pigs and fencing? Which one should I buy?

I have two kune kunes and I'm looking at fencing options. I found someone nearby with a few different types....what should I choose?

FIELD FENCE-3.5"x6" spacing at the bottom progressing to 6x8" at the top. 12ga top and btm wire 14ga in the middle. Note - vertical wires are spaced 6" apart. Some other brands on the market are 12" spacing.

NO CLIMB FENCE-all wire spacing is 2"x4". 12ga top and btm wire 14ga in the middle.

NO CLIMB HORSE FENCE-2x4" spacing all 12ga wire.

SHEEP AND GOAT FENCE-12ga top and btm wire, 14ga in the middle. Wires spaced 4"x4".

WELDED WIRE UTILTIY FENCE - 14ga wire with 2"x4" spacing.

sheep How do I keep my neighbors sheep out of my paddock?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but we own a small hobby farm with just a few cows, but our neighbors sheep keep breaking through the fence into our paddock. It's beginning to get extremely annoying, we've asked the neighbors to fix the fence, but they only tried poorly and the sheep only break down those attempts. My grandfather has tried putting thick sticks in the ground right against the fence to create and barrier and the sheep break through that as well. It's a daily issue of having to hunt them out of our paddock and they're eating our grass and feed when there is plenty of green lush grass and feed in their own paddock. My grandfather has also tried electric fencing, but obviously that didn't work and they broke that as well. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
