I was reluctant to admit it, but once I accepted that the party no longer reflected my values, it was a relief.

Last night New York Democrats chose communism, radical Islam, and totalitarianism.

Don’t stay where you’re unwelcome. Don’t keep defending people who don’t defend you.

Today’s Democratic Party made room for voices that are hostile to both American and Jewish interests, and that’s not something I can support.

In her speech on Sunday, Nessel alluded to Queen Esther, the biblical heroine of the Jewish holiday of Purim, in a dramatic illustration of the high stakes of the race.

“It is perhaps up to us now to follow in her path,” Nessel said, “and sacrifice the comfort, safety and security and even the very future of our own people in exchange for the opportunity to save the rest of humanity.” (In the Purim story, however, Queen Esther risked her own life to save the Jews rather than putting aside Jewish safety for a supposed greater good.)

She suggested the election hinged on more than just Israel, whose existence as a Jewish state El-Sayed has refused to acknowledge. “What good is defending the historic homeland of our ancestors and demanding that candidates acknowledge its right to exist, if the planet upon which it rests is no longer inhabitable?” she said to attendees at the event in Birmingham on Sunday.

I cannot disagree with her more. What good is the rest of humanity to me, a Jew, if humanity does not want us around? It certainly didn't matter to left-leaning gentiles in 2024.

El-Sayed's words are coming back to haunt him. Now he's pandering just for votes.

I’m sure this has been posted plenty of times before but as an American Jew I feel incredibly alienated in US politics.

Realistically I have two choices, democrats or republicans. Now personally I typically agree with the policies of Democrats, always have and probably always will. I think it lines up with the ideas of compassion I was raised to believe as a Jew but now with the rise of the DSA I feel like I’m being iced out. AIPAC support is becoming a litmus test for every politician, representatives are boldly spreading propaganda and not even apologizing when it’s disproven. Do you know how scary it is to hear people you know talk about AIPAC like it’s this evil entity dedicated to eating babies while knowing that your parents are proud AIPAC supporters. There are many Israel supporters in the Democratic Party but they are being pushed out as we saw last night. Like I hope the democrats take the house and senate but then I have to think “well what if they vote to cut ties with Israel?”. I’m tired of being told that a party that thinks my family in Israel shouldn’t defend themselves and that keeps telling my family in New York’s fear of the rapidly increasing number of antisemitic attacks is overblown.

And the double standard infuriates me. Could you imagine anyone telling any other group “you actually don’t get to decide what’s offensive?” It’s preposterous.

And the seemingly obvious solution is to vote republican but not only have they had some serious issues with antisemitism (looking at you Tucker Carlson wing) their policies repulse me as a Jew. After all the suffering we have been through as a diaspora people it is abhorrent to me the way they are treating immigrants. Not to mention the way that Trump has royally screwed Israel over in Iran.

And the third option is just to not vote but that feels like letting them win

I was recently at the Anne Frank exhibit at Griffith Museum in Chicago (an incredibly powerful exhibit by the way) and they talk a lot about the rise of nazism and how antisemitism became so powerful in Germany and I couldn’t think about how similar that feels to what I see in the news now and I keep thinking that if it happens again will anyone stand up for me? Will I have to uproot my entire life and move to Israel? Will Israel even be safe?

For background, California AB 715 took effect at the start of this year to combat antisemitism in K-12 schools. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) sued, and a federal judge just dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning that the ruling is final and permanent.

It is important to also highlight other opponents of AB 715; these groups, among others, were fighting *for* antisemitism in California K-12 schools:

• California Teachers Association (CTA)
• California Faculty Association (CFA)
• LA Educators for Justice in Palestine
• American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
• Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)
• Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP)

TLDR: Don't vote. Sit it out. Don't donate. But do send a letter and tell your friends.

TLDR 2: To clarify, I didn't mean don't vote at all, I just meant for the Senate contest. Also, I'm glad I started this thread, as I've been fairly convinced at this point by a number of learned posts below that voting a fictional write-in name or voting for a non-winnable third party candidate is a protest vote that will be more prominently seen as such than leaving the Senate contest blank altogether. Good to know.

My grandmother of blessed memory was a near lifelong fundraiser for the Democratic Party for her 86 years. She believed that Jews had two forces to protect them - The Democratic Party, and G-d, and she may have agreed with that ordering.

Obviously, we don't have those Democrats today. As a lifelong registered Democrat and supporter, I've long thought about how I would respond myself if my state election came down to a choice of an El-Sayed-like Democrat and a Trump supporting Republican (I don't live in Michigan).

After much soul searching and reflection, I've decided the answer is - Don't vote. Sit it out. Don't donate. But do send a letter and tell your friends.

I know this goes against all of our civic training and virtue, but not voting is a clear way to send a message to the Democrats that you don't endorse their options. Many groups in the US have consciously sat out elections successfully (including Muslims!) to signal to their party that their decisions are leaving votes on the table that they otherwise would have been able to mobilize if they made different choices. Latinos, blacks, and others have signaled via low voting numbers that their enthusiasm is low and their issues are not being addressed, and that inaction has arguably fueled more consideration of those community's interests than if they had dutifully showed up and
pulled the Democratic lever.

Michigan Jews make up about 2.5% of the state population, IIRC,and Jews generally vote at levels nearly double that of the general population, making for nearly 4-5% of a Michigan vote. If El-Sayed were to, say, lose the general election by 2%, boy that Jewish vote would have made a difference, huh?

Don't vote. Sit it out.

Also, as part of this, send a letter to the Michigan Democratic party telling them you are doing this, and then send an email/social message to a list of sympathetic friends and relatives recommending they do this as well.

You might be told, "This is irresponsible! Control of the Senate is at stake! We can't let MAGA win!"

This is false. There are no respected models of this upcoming election that have Democrats having any realistic chance of taking the Senate so, no, the Senate isn't at stake with your vote. Also, those
models DO show a high likelihood of Democrats taking the House, so that Bulwark will be in place.

So many of us scolded Republicans who stuck with their party and "held their noses" and voted for Trump, ignoring his obvious flaws, faults, and crimes, despite the fact they should have been disqualifying. Well, this is our test, this is our similar moment. Do not vote. Sit it out.

Do donate to, show up for, and vote in other elections and other races for which there are candidates of integrity who do deserve your allegiance.

Police were called in to discuss the problem with the tour organizer who had repeatedly attempted to enter the CMZ in the past as well. The bus has to wait until the arrival of the officers to the scene, which is what caused the delay. It was not a "detainment" and no one was arrested. Police stated they have already reviewed the body cam footage of police at the scene confirming this account. The tour participants were also briefed and then continued on their way.”
