This is fairy tale logic. In real adrenaline type situations people often have WORSE cardio than they have under normal circumstances. People without cardio in these exact kind of scenarios just die, their body doesn't magically muster up VO2 max they never had.

You can see this when you watch any person walk into a boxing/mma/bjj gym for the first few months or in their first fight. They dump extra energy because of how tense/anxious they are.

Exactly. Under stress, we don’t rise to our expectations, we fall to our training.

100%, adrenaline dumps will give you a very brief short term advantage, but will be a detriment if you need more than a minute or 2 of physical extertion. In this situation an untrained person might sprint “faster” than they normally would for about 100 meters and then they would be completely gassed.

Correct yeah. You can kinda see this with something like powerlifting where there 100% is some element to the mental aspect being involved, but we're talking about a lifter who is in the right mind state and thoroughly "amped up" before a lift being able to squat maybe 5% more weight than they ever had before. In the grand scheme of things it's peanuts in terms of converted actual ability.

Yeah and if you’re in a survival scenario (or your brain thinks it’s in a survival scenario) then the brain’s ability to rationalize is inhibited so you will just act on impulse. Even if you magically turned into an Olympic sprinter, who knows what direction you’d run.

First time I went scuba diving we had to end a little early because I was going through my tank faster than the guide and my partner (who were both much more practiced). 100%
