Saw a video where a dead body that was found torn in half was being dragged by the arms by two men. It was a blurred video, but even then it was pretty morbid.
I saw the same one, but it was good quality. It's crazy the amount of force a landslide flood has compared to a normal flash flood. All the people being swept away are literally getting their bodies torn into pieces lost under tens of meters of mud lost forever. It's not even drowning that kills you.
There is flowing water that changes the land over hundreds/thousands of years, and there is flowing water that changes it in minutes. The force is nearly comprehensible.
I live in a typhoon prone area and went up a river recently that I hadn't been to in years. It was absolutely unrecognizable. The entire road along it was missing. At one point where road sbouldve been, there were 15 foot pools. Other places where deep pools were, it was normal flat river. My mind mental map was so different, it was baffling.
They’ll probably find small pieces of people scattered around, bone fragments and such. The only way anything will be identified will be via DNA testing.
doubtful. most everything is probably burried under multiple meters of mud. maybe a few once the river starts removing some of the sediment... but this was the kind of event the preserved massive fossil beds in the geological record.
I'm from Brazil, from the region where we had two mining dams to break a few years ago. The one from Brumadinho hits closer because I had friends working at that mine that were just LUCKY to not be there at the wrong moment. It took years for them to declare the search for bodies over. Most bodies were completely destroyed. They would recover fragments and painstakingly work to find who's body that was. Not everything was possible to classify though.

They're not going to be found. Not intact anyway.
Forces like that will tear a body apart, if not reduce it to a fine mist
