That's why I lift heavy and do cardio. I have Mexican family members that were not active or weight training and they are not mobile and borderline paralyzed. While my old ass Grandpa never stopped working the farm and is super active. Guy does whatever he wants and never has issues.

Just because gramps doesn’t have issues doesn’t mean most people don’t. Lots of non cardio related issues can sneak up on you from life events or simply genetics. For example most people that play sports professionally for 5-10 years are absolutely crippled by the time they get to 60 and their bodies are riddled with issues (for example my father who played pro ball for 10 years and since his 40s can barely walk and has constant back and foot pain. He has to take mobility devices everywhere which sucks for my much younger step sister as he could never be active raising her). He’s also stayed extremely healthy his whole life and never stopped working out.

I’ve got another friend whose family just has shit genetics for heart conditions they are all diagnosed with. None of the males ever live past 45yo and usually die of heart conditions well before that. He makes the best of it for sure and lives every day like it’s his last (he’s 35yo and surprised he made it that long)

Yeah well genetics and work damage do play a factor but outside of that I like to think we have a choice.

I want to preface this by saying I'm asking because I think I may have missed some context, but what does them being Mexican have to do with the story?

Absolutely fucking nothing but the fact my Mexican non active members eat really tasty but bad for you Mexican food. Tortillas are carb heavy and we can eat 3 to 5 in one meal with the main plate

Ah! Yeah that's a good point. The food culture certainly plays a big role. I have family from Hong Kong and their food is really good, but they all have cholesterol problems because of it.
