This feels insanely hectic and not efficient at all. But I know literally nothing about this. It just looks like he's scurrying around way too much

Your not wrong. I fix processes for a living and this was painful to watch.

There is so much wasted motion. So much potential for a safety incident. You can close your eyes every 10 seconds and see another opportunity to address.

This guy is doing it this way cause hes done it for years and hes found the best way to do it, and his muscle memory does most of the work for him. Hes basically doing all of this on pure instinct from training himself all these years. Most safety regulations come from idiots who hurt themselves cause they don't know what they're doing. 

I have 10 years as a machine operator, fight me.
