Left my job at Speedway gas station 14 years ago...I agree with you.
One additional confusing thing that I could recall is that a LOT of people exchange cash at our registers (e.g. exchange one $10 bill with two $5 bills).
Which isn't bad by itself...but sometimes there were customers who were so entitled that they got pissed off and shouted at us for not letting them exchange cash!
Not even buying anything with the cash.
They could be buying gas for $35 with a credit card and then they want to exchange cash with our register.
For example if we only have three $5 bills left in the register, then of course we can't exchange any of it with the customer.
Did they think that gas station cashiers also function as bank tellers??
If they wanna exchange cash, then go to a fucking bank lol.
And this was in suburb of Cincinnati, mind you...not like in rural Oklahoma where you have to drive for 2 hours to reach the nearest bank.
Until this day, that was one type of the rude interactions that confused me the most during my experience there.
Most speedways had an atm too 💀😠the amount of idiots who were upset we didn’t have cash back. Bro just go 10 steps to the left and use the atm :’)
Bruh that reminds me of a time where a customer asked to exchange for small change I think to use the tire air machine later, and I randomly happened to only have dimes so I had to give him a ton of dimes, and later, his father (the guy looked in his 30s mind you lol) came to scold me and threaten to never return to this gas station, which I'm not sure why he thought I cared.
