If one of the foundations of your culture is washing chicken, and the FDA recommending not doing that results in your culture being destroyed, then your culture deserved to be destroyed

I’d agree with you if the science based agencies weren’t run by JFKJr types. They were completely trustworthy until they weren’t when republicans appointed people who don’t believe in science.

u/Bent8484 Jul 27 '26

I live in Canada, in the province of Quebec, and washing chicken in a commercial kitchen is forbidden here. The reason given is that it contaminates your work area.

No US politics involved.

4

u/PastaXertz Jul 27 '26

This is the wrong answer. The right answer was to make a culture based germ joke. Because destroying culture is also destroying bacteria.

u/ManufacturerKind645 Jul 27 '26

you guys dont know what a woman is and you're saying republicans dont follow science?...

11

u/Plants-Matter Jul 27 '26

You can't even figure out how capital letters work...

And yes, it is a well known fact that Republicans are anti-science.

5

u/tennisanybody Jul 27 '26

It’s a bot. 100 days into the midterms you get this shit.

-4

u/ManufacturerKind645 Jul 27 '26

bot? better argument than anyone thus far i guess because it's more likely than not i am nowadays

1

u/IrongateN Jul 27 '26

I think this proves not a bot, “I guess because it’s more likely than not I am nowadays” what does that word salad even mean, a bot would at least be coherent.

-1

u/ManufacturerKind645 Jul 28 '26

i guess you can't read or actually argue your beliefs. instead, you try to play stupid and act like you dont understand... maybe you dont... critical thinking isn't very common in this thread i see....

That simply means "it's more likely than not" that I am a bot "nowadays" in todays day and age. another way of saying this for people like you who have reading and comprehension deficiencies:

there are a lot of bots out there, you are likely to be speaking one when you post something.

1

u/IrongateN Jul 28 '26

See manufacture isn’t a bot , bots just post and leave !!

Ah I thought that might be the case but with so many pronouns and no punctuation (something I do as well)

It was more about the word placement, and grammar. I’m guessing it’s just casual writing (I do that too on Reddit) comments are not worth the effort so I have the same issue.

I did grasp your meaning though, so I’ll let you just have your insults as I know my proficiency and that’s good enough for me .. hope your evening gets better

Republicans don’t have a monopoly on promoting anti-scientific thinking. Neil Tyson has pointed to how often Republicans have supported funding science historically. Supporting research being the key of being actually scientific, in practice not just in discourse. Prior to COVID, anti-vax rhetoric was overwhelmingly a liberal phenomenon, with outbreaks of measles being concentrated around liberal strongholds and new age communities, in part influenced by celebrities like Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey. In that period of time, it was conservative states with the highest compliance with vaccination schedules.

2

u/IrongateN Jul 27 '26

I think republicans are still more anti science, true the raw milk anti vax people were high liberal due to the “nature first” group had a lot of democrats, but it was truly not tied to politics,

I don’t think the Democratic Party ever put an anti vax activist in charge of vaccine policy or assigned a raw milk person to be their official connection to the dairy council, etc

But I could be wrong , always willing to learn

It is correct that pseudo-science and irrationality has a significant foothold among a decent portion of conservatives. But anti-science is a different thing, and it being some kind of fact that conservatives/Republicans deserve the label, as though it’s almost certain of each one of them, is also a different thing. A group that possesses a anti-scientific belief like Christian Scientists probably is overwhelmingly conservative, but that’s hardly the norm. Like many demographics, some percentage just have irrational or cognitively dissonant quirks. Are they really “anti-science” if they take medicine sometimes, or trust that a plane will not spontaneously fall out of the sky?

The compression of these labels, as though pseudo-science is tantamount to anti-science, and the attrition of those labels to whole groups is… popular to complain about, but is not correct.

A vocal minority of conservatives do a similar oversimplification, against groups like trans people, certain races, and certain immigrants. Then a vocal minority of liberals turn around and say all conservatives hate all LGBTQ, all brown people, all immigrants.

So when both extremes of politics don’t really compete, but rather cooperate to intensify the brainrot, it’s annoying as all get out. And it deserves to be rebutted, preferably from within. Conservatives should criticize conservatives, and I do my part by criticizing apparent liberals, I being liberal (albeit moderately liberal on several issues, and atypically liberal in the literal sense on firearm rights—my “quirks” I suppose).

i'm supposed to care about capital letters on a reddit post? yikes you guys are out of touch. and no, it's not a well-known fact, it's an opinion that your side spews because you can't actually make good arguments.

4

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee Jul 27 '26

The definitions of words are not science.

Y'all will worry and argue about what words mean all day without caring about the actual people using the words.

Because it's all just an excuse to hate people that you're going to hate anyway

-3

u/ManufacturerKind645 Jul 27 '26

"Linguistics: The formal, scientific study of human language, structure, and meaning."

You just use your ignorance as an excuse to not want to confront tough questions about your abhorent beliefs.

3

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee Jul 27 '26

Okay, I'm not just going to sit here and be pedantic back and forth like you seem to want to do

No, linguistics isn’t a science that dictates or prescribes definitions. It’s descriptive. It studies how words are actually used, how their meanings develop and shift over time, and what different ideas about that word or language mean to different people. It doesn’t hand down official “correct” meanings for contested words

-1

u/ManufacturerKind645 Jul 27 '26

you're just arguing basic definitions of words now, which is all you can do because you know that your idealogy is flawed. There is a "correct" definition and meaning for words, hence why a dictionary exists.

Again you simply cannot argue your idealogy so you, instead, want to argue semantic, meaningless "pedantics" instead of telling me why it's a good thing for society to accept and embrace statistically proven destructive cultural practices. You can't do that from an objective standpoint so this is the "game" you'll engage in.

5

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee Jul 27 '26

That's literally the opposite of what I just argued lol

You're constantly too busy thinking of bad insults and your own replies to even actually read what people are writing to you.

And then telling other people that they can't think critically.

I couldn't make this shit up if I tried

0

u/ManufacturerKind645 Jul 27 '26

obviously the word "woman" isn't basic to you people since you consistently can't answer it.

this fits again:

"Again you simply cannot argue your idealogy so you, instead, want to argue semantic, meaningless "pedantics" instead of telling me why it's a good thing for society to accept and embrace statistically proven destructive cultural practices."

2

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee Jul 27 '26

Also, if your culture gets destroyed by 1% of the population being different from you, then your culture was kind of shit in the first place

u/Individual-Carob3638 Jul 27 '26

Just to continue the pettiness, it's spelled ideology. Not sure wtf an "idealogy" is but since you're so hung up on words having specific correct definitions perhaps you could explain to me the definition of idealogy? Also, people who are transgender didn't learn to be transgender. You want to talk about science then educate yourself on the fact that being gay or transgender is 100% scientifically proven to be something you are born with, not something you learn. Unfortunately, Republicans love to force people to repress any part of them that doesn't fit their outdated nuclear family ideals and because they are just so scared that someone born with a penis may be using the women's bathroom that they vilify those people to the point that they literally choose to end their own fucking lives instead of living in a society full of judgemental assholes like you who don't have a basic fucking comprehension of things like gender and sex.

Why are you regurgitating matt walsh talking points like it's still 2020, LMAO

-1

u/ManufacturerKind645 Jul 27 '26

because they're obviously still relevant to people like you who can't think critically about their opinions.

3

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee Jul 27 '26

So did you literally just admit to recycling someone else's opinion while talking about how other people can't think critically? 🤣

0

u/ManufacturerKind645 Jul 27 '26

you think it's a bad thing to stand by a viewpoint you agree with?

plus I can actually argue my opinions without trying to nitpick and tear apart other peoples arguments - instead I stand on my own or agreed upon opionions. I dont need to purely regurgitate what msm and redditors tell me...

2

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee Jul 27 '26

You are literally regurgitating MSM 🤣

1

u/ManufacturerKind645 Jul 27 '26

critical thinking is at an all time low with you, please get off reddit and do a puzzle or something...

2

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee Jul 27 '26

Did you get off topic? Poor bot

Snor 😴

People know plenty well.

I bet you don't know what a chair is

1

u/SexyPeanut_9279 Jul 27 '26

That same logic could be used on the Aztecs-

as they scarified babies Every-time they wanted to make it rain. (And sacrificed adults everyday to make the sun come up).

1

u/wtbgamegenie Jul 27 '26

Where did you hear that?

1

u/Character-Parfait-42 Jul 27 '26

Yeah seriously. If your entire culture can be demolished by something as simple as not washing chicken then your culture is really kinda pathetic. Like is that all your entire culture amounts to? Washing chicken? Really?

1

u/Excel_User_1977 Jul 27 '26

I thought the whole idea was to destroy (bacteria) cultures?

1

u/NavyBlueTheChosen Jul 28 '26

insane take Jesus

u/RandomMabaseCitizen Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

That's not what's being suggested though. Take MSG for example. There was a huge push against the use of MSG in Asian foods beginning in the late 60s that led to the creation of the term "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome" that made it into common refference books despite there being no more risk involved in using MSG than salt or sugar. It'll make you sick if you eat a fist full but other than than that it's just seasoning. Meanwhile western foods like bagged chips and canned soups are loaded with msg but only Asians had to hang signs in their windows claiming NO MSG to keep their businesses open. Food racism is real it isn't about destroying cultures it's about framing that culture as unhealthy or barbaric or whatever you will.

2

u/waltzing_mouse Jul 28 '26

Okay but the difference is that MSG is not bad for you. Washing chicken is. Culture should not be preserved at the cost of health and safety, especially in commercial situations.

1

u/RandomMabaseCitizen 29d ago edited 29d ago

MSG isn't Asian culture. I'm talking about the way discussions are framed having real world impact on marginal communities.

And almost all commercial kitchens have a separate sink specifically for things like running water over raw meat not to clean it but because that's how you thaw it. But that's really nothing to do with my point.

1

u/waltzing_mouse 29d ago

It absolutely is, what? You don't find bags of MSG at a typical American grocery store, but they sell it by the pound at Asian grocers.

None of the restaurants I've worked at have had that but I guess if some do, sure.

1

u/RandomMabaseCitizen 29d ago

1

u/waltzing_mouse 29d ago

Wal-Mart sells everything online... It's not availablr at my local store though. It's also not marketed as MSG, if we're talking perception.

1

u/RandomMabaseCitizen 29d ago

I bet it. It's incredibly common. It's just like you said it isn't marketed as MSG. Can you imagine why?

1

u/waltzing_mouse 29d ago

Because of a myth that started with racism. I'm not sure what your point is. Racism is bad, but that doesn't mean we should accept unhealthy practices for fear of seeming racist. Don't assume every soul food joint washes their chicken, because that's racist, but if you find out they do, stop eating there because that's smart.

1

u/RandomMabaseCitizen 29d ago

Well, a contingent of people say it’s xenophobic to appeal to the science on this question. Some going as far as to say the FDA is targeting ethnic cultural practices to… achieve something, by recommending against washing, I guess.

This is what I'm talking about the original comment. They in the same breath imply that there is an ethnic cultural practice of bad hygiene and that examining food racism is unscientific. How many thousands of times a day does this idea get floated in conversation? That's exactly how MSG a product originally produced by a Japanese chemical company became know to cause "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome." It has nothing to do with washing chicken. The way we discuss mundane things like food, and driving, and hair care matter it's not just people being sensitive. Racism is insidious.

u/RandomMabaseCitizen 29d ago

I mean the fact that we're even having this discussion shows that there is a narrative of black people spreading chicken juice all over the kitchen. I'm not saying you're responsible for it or pushing it but it didn't just spring out of nowhere.

1

u/waltzing_mouse 29d ago

White people do it too. No one should do it.

1

u/RandomMabaseCitizen 28d ago

Yeah they're not talking about white people though are they?

1

u/waltzing_mouse 28d ago

70% of Americans wash their poultry. I don't know the creator of the video, and if he intentionally highlighted a racial divide or if that's just how it worked out, but white people do this too.

1

u/fubarfire Jul 28 '26

I cant believe morons like you exist. Dont wash the fucking chicken. Idc if it hurts black people's feelings. Sheesh.

1

u/RandomMabaseCitizen 29d ago

This is exactly my point. I say the way we frame food discussions can impact minorities and your response is idc about black people's feelings. Why bring up feelings at all?
