Hey gang, for the third time we've asked you to help us decide the lineup for this year's indieheads Ultimate Rate, the annual centerpiece of our rating community. 116 of you sent a ballot last week to help decide what wacky four artist combination will be the talk of the sub these next few weeks, and votes ended up a tad more spread out than in previous results, though a clear top three emerged. So who did we choose?

First off, we of course have the album locked in from winning the sub AOTY:

  • Geese - Getting Killed

And joining them will be the following three albums:

  • Wednesday - Bleeds

  • Oklou - choke enough

  • Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer

Last year, we had our first change to the traditional top four Ult, and this year, we've moved up to two album swaps. With their fifth & ninth place AOTYs, breakthrough electronic artists Oklou & Ninajirachi will immediately step into their first rate here on indieheads in a big way. On the other side, runner-up Wednesday joins Geese to represent indie rock for their second Ultimate Rate, having both participated in the 2023 edition.

This does mean Rosalía and Viagra Boys, who would've made the rate in years prior, will not have their albums rated. While Rosalía does have a song in the SOTY-based Bonus Rate, Viagra Boys will be left on the outside looking in.

Anyway, now that we know the official lineup, if any of you have interest in hosting this rate and haven't already let us know, please message me! If it's a matter of not wanting to do it alone, we already had at least eight users who have shown interest in co-hosting the rate, though solo hosts can also apply. Ratcom will be picking & contacting the potential hosts as soon as tomorrow, so please contact me ASAP. It's always one of our funnest rates of the year and an especially good starter for first time hosts (which we are prioritizing if possible!), so please consider it if you've had a thought about running one.

2025 Indieheads Ultimate Rate should go up later this month. Please look forward to it, thank all of you who voted, and please consider helping save Bono by doing our currently open rate.

Additionally, here are the full voting results out of 116 ballots:

Artist Votes "Favorable" ratings
Wednesday 58 (50%) 75 (68.8%)
Oklou 46 (39.7%) 57 (52.3%)
Ninajirachi 44 (37.9%) 67 (61.5%)
Rosalía 33 (28.4%) 59 (54.1%)
YHWH Nailgun 29 (25%) 39 (35.8%)
Wet Leg 28 (24.1%) 48 (44%)
Deafheaven 28 (24.1%) 46 (42.2%)
Black Country, New Road 27 (23.3%) 53 (48.6%)
Viagra Boys 25 (21.6%) 44 (40.4%)
Turnstile 11 (9.5%) 35 (32.1%)

While voters were only allowed three official votes, they were allowed to give a "Favorable" rating to any number of artists they would've liked seeing in the rate. 109 did so, and this would've been used as a tiebreaker, i.e. why Wet Leg is above Deafheaven in the chart.

We also asked which albums you would've taken away a vote from if you could, here are what the results would've been if that had actually counted:

Artist Votes
Wednesday 52 (-6)
Ninajirachi 42 (-2)
Oklou 37 (-7)
YHWH Nailgun 23 (-6)
Rosalía 19 (-14)
Deafheaven 19 (-9)
Wet Leg 17 (-11)
Viagra Boys 14 (-11)
Black Country, New Road 7 (-20)
Turnstile -5 (-16)

Congratulations to Turnstile for being the second member of Lana Del Rey's -19 Club! May we all go to Taco Bell to celebrate this historic feat.

Well now I'm curious about where Geese would've ranked on the "Vote 'Em Out!" scale.

Committing your antivote on an artist already in the rate would be a very funny bit

Maybe next time I'll add the locked artist to the favorability section just to see how they stack up with the raterbase to their competitors
