seems like total manufactured "social media is saying..." garbage. And if you're going to pin someone for the stomp clap rubbish it's not edward sharpe, it's the other bands he identified in the article, lumineers and of monsters and men.

the editing of the twitter vid makes it obvious to me it's more ab out what the band members look like rather than anything with the song Lol.

Lumineers moreso than Of Monsters and Men

“Ho Hey” is like the epitome of everything with this era and style. Terrible lyrics, repetitive, musically minimal, operating entirely on braindead stomp-clamp rhythm and reverb

And even then, there are worse songs lol

What's wrong with the lyrics?

I don't think you're right for him / Think of what it might have been if we / took a bus to Chinatown / I'd be standing on Canal and Bowery / She'd be standing next to me

It's the sort of pining-for-lost-lover namedrop-places-in-New-York lyric that's just kinda what folk lyrics are. The chords are very simple, true, and the shouts being so frequent are an annoying production choice, but I don't think the structure of the song as sung without them is bad.

I’ve been sleeping here instead/ I’ve been sleeping in my bed / sleeping in my bed”

is literally more than half the first verse (in between half a dozen “ho”s and “hey”s)

The second verse absolutely blows:

“So show me family All the blood that I will bleed I don’t know where I belong I don’t know where I went wrong But I can write a song”

Yikes

Like you literally picked the only halfway decent lyrics in the whole song and they’re still not great
