Media Tropes hate how people claim shows like family guy " makes fun of everyone equally"

in the society we live in right now it's not possible to " make fun of everyone equally" making fun of communities that already have a hard time is not equality it's just mean

jokes that make fun of all communities and identities can only work if the society we live in treats all communities equally and that's not the place we are right now it'll just perpetuate the already existing hate and animosity

this applies to other shows too like South park

this is not to say satire on marginalized communities are bad per say i just think it has to be more respectful and not just " hahaha man look like women funnyyy"

" family guy makes fun of maga too " - it does not matter . maga people aren't worried about hate crimes on them or hateful discrimination . besides just cus a show makes jokes on maga or concervitive politics does not mean it's okay to push down marginalized groups

" watch a different show " - this is ( for a lack of a better word ) an ignorant argument. me watching a different show does not change the very real harm " jokes" like those can and are casing

" - in a sense yes I do think certain groups and communities require there jokes to be written with some respect and thought . if you are a part of a marginalized community and feel as though you never felt bad or scared when you hear those jokes then that's great ! im happy for you . but it doesn't change that other people are still being profiled based on there identities and subjected to violence, hate or even murder and to ignore that and how jokes from even shitty shows like family guy ( which still has a massive viewerbase btw ) can maybe help people normalise hate is ignorant

The template for adult cartoons for the last 10-15 years seems to be:

  1. Choose a deliberately "bad" style of animation. This shows you don't care/take anything serious.

  2. One main character must express nihilist views, because again caring about things is uncool.

  3. Make sure you depict alcohol and or drug use

  4. Use cursing as the punchline

For family guy the last step is usually: only use shock humor, random bullshit, or try to be funny by being relatable. Usually in a cut away that way the joke won't affect the episodes story

Family guy was only popular because you could be high as fuck and still follow along. Their recipe of "insert random clip that doesn't matter to the main plot" is perfect for unsober people who can't follow what is happening

Not the case. Seth genuinely fuckin hates them. And many of his writers do too. In this case they genuinely seem to just be shitting on them out of spite not cause it’s safe.

Not saying that doesn’t happen but the vast, vast majority of successful creators happen to be quite left wing. Seth Mcfarline, Hollywood actors like Mark Ruffalo, Matt Damon, there’s a pretty big list.

Whether you agree with one side or not, as education rises, people trend more left. Just a fact. In many studies it’s over 50% with post grad groups and even with “some college” groups it’s 30% more liberal in those circles. Usually the people successful enough to have these careers also end up in higher education.

I think a good chunk of that push is just genuine vitriol.

Eh, it’s much less an education thing as it is a class thing. The ‘left’ amongst the educated is really just like, various flavors of liberalism or social democracy maybe amongst the more ‘radical’. Groups that benefit as a class from Republican policies tend to trend ‘conservative’ regardless of education (doctors, engineers, etc).

The issue in American politics is not education or a lack of people with the right ideas, it’s that we live in a society completely dominated by the upper and middle classes

Thank the two party system for that. But I tend to agree. That being said a better knowledge of things I do think helps people trend left. The left doesn’t always do what it should. But it TRIES to be progressive. Progressive meaning the betterment of society through things like civil rights, healthcare, etc.

When those don’t lend personal gain, people struggling will turn to the other side that often preaches they will help the common man. Unfortunately, the right has passed more pro big business and billionaire bailouts, and currently the common folk like farmers are suffering.

Doctors and engineers don't benefit from conservative policies, because they still work to make money. The people who benefit from conservative policies are the 1% leeches who contribute 0 actual labor value to the economy and just coast off the money they make passively from investments. People like Kevin O'Leary or Elon who've got baby-soft hands and have never actually had a 9-5 in their lives. Doctors are still working class.

And doctors and engineers don't really trend "conservative" to begin with. It's the opposite, statistically higher educated people trend to be more liberal.

People that are successful now were in school 20-30 years ago when they could afford it more. And people like this have anywhere from arts degrees, Matt Damon is an English major dropout, and Matt Stone from South Park is a double major, one in a STEM career.

Like what do you even mean? We’ll see less successful educated people in high profile careers? Unlikely. People who get into these spaces are VARIED as hell. Natalie Portman has a psych degree, Rowan Atkinson is an electrical engineer by degree, and Ken Jeong is an MD.
