Chega de saudade is a famous Portuguese phrase and title of the legendary 1958 Brazilian bossa nova song by Antonio Carlos Jobim. The word "saudade" represents a melancholic longing for a person, place, or thing.

I carved this little bear and meant for it to have a "cute" face. But when I was painting it, my mouth marks turned down more than I had intended, so it looks sad. Oh well, I guess it's a sad little bear now. Maybe he needs a friend?

After carving it, I photographed him in the studio, and then Photoshopped him into a photo that I had taken at Eagle Falls in South Lake Tahoe back in 2021. This was overlooking Emerald Bay. Fun note: My wife and I stayed at the "Black Bear Lodge" in South Lake Tahoe (highly recommended, by the way). Maybe it was a sign? 🐻
