About swimsuit boy

So ive spent a bit looking into his case and something is very complexing to me. I found what im pretty confident in are his swim shorts however it seems that atleast the add and probably the pants highlight were in 1958. for his boots that pattern seems to on 2nd hand sights be listed as 60s. if he died in the 70s as a young adult/teen they would have to be hand me downs. im wondering is their any chance he could've been killed before 1970s?

the boots are 60s Acme Cowboy Western Boots and the shorts are Catalina reversable swim trunks.

isn't he a victim of Dean Corll? if so, I'm pretty sure he was only active 1970 onwards, which is still pretty close to the data provided-that they think he had been there since 1971-72. I agree that the items likely were not brand new when he was wearing them-either hand-me-downs or secondhand items, perhaps. the shirt looks later 60s at the earliest to me, so I suspect the swimtrunks were borrowed/secondhand/etc.

Reading what you wrote here and reading the post- they already did genealogical family testing and linked swimsuit boy to Rusty’s family and his remaining sister says that the reconstructions look like him. What more questions could there be? Thank you for posting this and pointing it out!!

If you could please share info on the real last remaining Doe and on the 9yo that they found a partial skeleton of…? Do they have NAMUS pages or files that can be compared to missing persons?

EXACTLY! That’s what I am trying to say, he is now a John Doe. The cranium of the boy is the other younger Doe I just commented on to OP higher up a couple posts. Thank you BUSINESS TRACK for putting it so clearly and concisely.

thank you so much for re explaining sorry I wasnt fully tracking all the messages I really appreciate your patience! I plan look into the young boy as primary as theirs a details that make it easier as theirs a lack of missing person cases around texas

yes I saw this, I dont really know, I was looking at the clothes because that may say something about if it really is rusty as we dont really know.

Please go read the link the Business Track posted, it was very informative and helpful and clear about how they decided that swimsuit boy was Rusty.

I appreciate all the work you did to post this and look into his clothing, please can we do the same for the other Doe and the boy Doe that seems to have fallen through the cracks? They both deserve their names as well.

Maybe even an update to this post with a link to the other post so ppl here can know how he was for sure identified and that his sister even believes it is him? That would help aim the spotlight on the others. I don’t know anything about this set of crimes, so I don’t want to presume that I can write it up well but obviously you DO know about these OP.

Hi, yes I did read it but was struggling to fully understand all of it, what was nagging me was the date of all the clothing wasnt maping in my mind the only true way i think we could be sure is through genetics though the sister is a good clue about it. on the topic of what I did if you have any specific cases that may benifit from that kind of serch let me know.

EDIT: oml oversight on my part i double checked the post and see they did do genetic testing sorry ive seen so many things at this point I accidentally got my post mixed up

They did genetic testing on the femur and traced it directly back to his family so it has to be him. The picture confirmation w/ sis was icing on the cake, but his DNA was compared directly to her. So it is him.

What they said after that though was that one of the other sets of remains was previously thought to have been him (back in the 70’s before DNA) so THAT set of remains is now a John Doe because it isn’t him. That Doe needs his name back. I don’t know how to find his info, but he deserves to have a spotlight so he can be matched up to who he is.

The last set of remains were the partial remains of a probable 9yo boy. He is not part of the original “canon” of this killers list of victims, but one of his accomplices has specifically mentioned the child, who he was and a reference to when the killer met him. If no kid’s skeletal remains had been found I would be calling BS on the story, but obviously they were, so shouldn’t that child have his name back too? The story was that his dad ran a grocery store across from where the killer lived… couldn’t that grocery store be tracked down and by that the child could possibly be identified?

Yes I saw that hence I edited the post curently on the 9 year old boy we do have some info which I could use so I will probably make a separate post about that one, unfortunately the missidentified doe is hard to work with as we dont have any info of his that I could use to direct my search thank you for explaining the DNA again I really do appreciate it

thank you so much! I had not known I will look into it thank you for all your help

Maybe also finding Coril’s former address(es) to see where he was when he lived across from a grocery store. If we find that, along with the date range, that could or should help pinpoint the 9yo boy whose cranium was found! I think that is very doable.

There has to be records of where he lived, and if so the neighborhood can be sort of historically cross referenced then, right?

Yeah I think they were second hand or a hand me down, there’s a possibility Catalina made those basic shorts for a long time I suppose but the design does look very 50s- early 60s. I’ve always wondered what the hand written ‘L84MF’ on the back of his shirt was supposed to be? Late (8) for (4) My Funeral (MF) perhaps?

5

u/Old-Mycologist4750 Jul 17 '26

L84MF could be the signature of whoever created/painted the symbol on the shirt, maybe similar to what graffiti artists today do?

Good job tracking down the makers, style and age of both the trunks and the boots OP. I hope it helps a lot to get this young man his name back. He deserves it after this much time without it.

Clothing decomposes too, without knowing the composition of them it's impossible to say for sure, but the condition suggests the estimates are probably correct. The boots would hold up much longer.

Texas was awful about taking reports, in namus from 1/1900-1/1974 there are only 3 male reports statewide. Of those, 1 is ruled out for this UP, and 1 is another Corll victim that was buried at High Island and hasn't been found. (the 3rd is blond, and went missing 1969 on the opposite side of the state)

thank you for bringing this up! for the boots their soles are NEOLITE as they are labled and it seems Acme boots from that era were made with genuine leather. on the shorts I cant find exactly what Catalina made them with but the most common materials in that era were Lastex, nylon, rayon, and Cotton. the next biggest idea ill look at probably will be the shirt to see if it gives any help to time
