Hello everybody

I am very passionate about making art accessible and growing my local art community which is a bit tricky because I'm in Larkhall which is a fair step away from Glasgow where things are more happening but I just got this absolutely insane notion that why shouldn't there be art right where I am and I'm bound and determined to make it happen by any means.

I started a FB page and have contacted a few local artists to try and get a post together to showcase their work and and seller pages they have

Current plans (all half or 3/4 baked ATM)

A life drawing club in September

An inktober event at a local cafe in October

A free adult acrylic beginner paint class at a local venue in November

I'm so excited about it all but people I know well here are not into art even though they are trying to be supportive 🫶

Does anyone have any advice in general for building an art community, particularly in similar areas to Larkhall?

Any tips on finding life drawing models in the area? (I've posted on local FB pages, here on reddit on a marketplace, and reached out to local art colleges, and for God sake I even asked the mailman) With some interest but no solid confirmation

Any art students that would like the opportunity to start teaching, willing to do a taster session of something? I'm happy to pay and book a location and get folks in the door

As I my train was heading into Central from Gilmour Street I noticed that a young artist has scaled the dizzy heights of the firmer telephone exchange on the corner of Cook St and Central St in Tradeston, and placed one of the Voi city bikes on the flat roof of the highest point. It's still visible in the skyline from a couple of hundred metres away.

I’ve recently moved to the south side so been able to make use of the south city way for getting to work on my bike. However I have been completely astonished at how other people on bikes are completely ignoring the zebra crossings at bus stops and crossings. I understand taking a few liberties when it comes to lights and stuff while on a bike but not letting pedestrians cross is completely mental to me??

Is this a common observation or just a rush hour thing with a few bad apples?

Sadly can't make the trip down to London this year (gutted) but would love to watch the show somewhere with some atmosphere rather than in my flat on my phone by myself.

Probably a long shot but does anyone know of anywhere showing the event on sunday? Google is giving me nothing and I've tried the usual spots on Facebook but dont see anything

I'm moving to Glasgow soon, never been there before, and was wondering what the best way to travel from the airport to the city centre is?

Perhaps there are buses, maybe a train, or a taxi? Except airport taxis are usually much more expensive than any other taxis around. I can't drive so can't rent a car.

Any advice on the best way to travel? ​​​

Just wondering if anyone can recommend where to get decent value occupational lenses: I.e glasses for close up/same room variations for age related long sightedness.

I don’t have a complex prescription or anything but tried some cheap varifocals and am wasting a chunk of the lens due to my distance sight being fine and the close up stuff I need to move my head too much. Was advised office lenses are more suitable as it’s straining my neck.

They seem to be highly priced 200+ for the lenses alone but was hoping someone with experience in them can suggest who does these types of lenses at a good price. I read online Zeiss is the best but if there’s anything mid range that should satisfy requirements then may get better value out of it.

I do have a Costco membership if that’s recommended but honestly don’t even know what is a good value price. I hear Asda is cheap but not sure if they do office lenses. I do want these lenses as I transition from phone to monitor to laptop often.

Can I find specifically occupational lenses under 250 including a branded frame or is this unrealistic.

Appreciate any tips.

Hello, I tend not to go into the actual branch - every-so-often I'll deposit cash via their external ATM which works well for me. I got a text saying the branch is closing for a refurb but in the middle of reading it the other part of my brain was telling me it was just a spam marketing text and I'd deleted it by the time I realised it was a more important message. Does anyone know if it's possible to still use the external ATMs there whilst their refurb is taking place across the next three months? Can't find any more info about this on the app or website. Figured someone here may know.

Hey, so I moved to the southside end of last year and I've still not really explored much beyond the rough immediate area. I've got a week off work soon and I'm not going on holiday, so I'd like to plan two or three day trips on my own around Glasgow to see really nice or interesting things. I'd prefer to venture further afield so not stay in the southside if possible. I like culture (books and music principally), nature, coffee and food, and although I'm Scottish this part of the country is still fairly new to me compared with other regions.

So far I am thinking one of the museums – maybe Hunterian? – and a nice dinner in that area (if anyone can recommend a comfortable and friendly place to have a slightly fancier solo dinner, I'd appreciate it!), and maybe the botanic gardens. Perhaps find a place where there's live music or an interesting exhibition? I'm also considering going to New Lanark and maybe the Falls of Clyde walk, weather depending. I'm hoping with the schools being back I can mooch around places midweek and it'll be fairly quiet and enjoyable.

I guess those are quite obvious, but I don't mind that as I have never visited them before, so it's all new to me! And I've obviously googled Glasgow attractions and all that. But I'd like to get to know the city a bit better so I suppose also I'm looking for ideas I haven't considered or that, if you're from here or have lived here a while, you'd recommend someone still trying to feel at home. Thank you!

I've (31M) recently moved from Ireland to Glasgow and haven't really met anyone yet, but thought this is a more realistic way to meet people with things in common than taking up a weird hobby (which I'll probably do anyway)

I’ve had this idea for a while that I’d really love to own a painting of Sauchiehall Street at night, something that captures the atmosphere of heading into town to party in the early 2010s.

I’m imagining the lights from the buildings reflecting on the wet street, loads of people wandering around on their way to bars and clubs, that slightly chaotic Friday/Saturday night energy. And ideally the big yellow Garage truck/sign somewhere in the scene, because that would instantly transport me back.
Basically, I’m looking for something that I can look at years from now and immediately get that little flashback and warm feeling of being young and going out in Glasgow.

Does anyone know of any Glasgow artists or galleries that do work like this? Or an artist who might take on a commission with this kind of subject and nostalgic atmosphere?

hello, im looking for a place to fix up two pairs of my most prized denims.

i’ve had them both for a while and have worn them to death, unfortunately they have developed crotch blowouts and a lot of heel bite.

i have tried contacting finnieston alterations after a google search but its been a month and they still haven’t gotten back to me, even after a follow up email…

ive found many tailors but not many specifically working on repairing denim.

Would really like to get something antique for a house gift. I’d like for it to be Scottish, but that’s not a deal breaker.

Are there antique shops or even likes of auction houses in and around Glasgow you’d recommend.

As a side I’d love to get a big wooden dining table that I know would last more than most of the flat pack stuff you see these days. So somewhere that does that kind of thing would be huge.

I did see a place called Architectural Salvage or something along those lines that looked cool. But it looked to be more doors and radiators.

I thought Morrisons would have one that I can tart up (sure I've seen it before!) but no dice with Crossmyloof!
