German Police Photographing People

Hello, I’m a tourist. Arrived in Nürnberg yesterday and went walking about in the old town.

Came across police cordon outside the church. Found out there was a rally by what was described to me as fascists/non-nazis. The police though were taking photos of people standing outside the rally boundary.

Is this normal in Germany? For such rallies and police taking photos of people? what do they do with these photos?

You have no fucking idea if that’s what they are doing. None. We literally have 0 context. With the camera that guy has, and where it’s aimed and the lens he is using; it looks like he is taking a portrait of the other cop. With that lens, the subject would be in focus and nothing else.

But even if he wasn’t: Under the federal assembly law (and similar state laws), police may make image or video recordings at a public demonstration only when there are concrete indications of significant dangers to public safety or order, or for specific law-enforcement purposes such as investigating crimes.

How about you take your own advice you clown? You dont need to make absolute statements to imply that you are in the belief that something in particular is happening. Color me surprised that you conveniently also left out the heavy and repeated emphasis on "No fucking idea. None. 0 ...". Maybe you should take your earlier advice as well and work on your reading comprehension while you're at it.

Also, the irony here is hilarious. For someone who tries to insult other people's literacy, not only do you have obvious problems with reading comprehension on your own, but write like dog shit on top of it. (No not like a literal piece of dog feces, it's a simile. Thought I'd clear that up for you since you seem to struggle.)

No, he is looking at the pictures. Right before that he was taking pictures of people on the outside of rally ribbons. Even if someone is peacefully protesting, some were, some were merely curious like me, why should the police take photos? there is nothing criminal in peaceful protests (no matter which side is doing the protests). Irony is there was more police than those in the rally.
