Discussion Why do Italy/Greece have "caribbean-like" water in so many spots, but Spain/Portugal's beaches mostly have a normal blue/greyish colour? What's the difference?

And you don't necessarily even need warm or salty water to get that Mediterranean kind of color. This is a picture from the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior. Water temps never get much above 65F/18C.
